cent fare to Munster and a ten-cent fare to Hammond. It is seven and a half miles to Hammond from Highland and the officers of the Green line will not attempt to carry passengers
over that distance for less than tea cents.
The ten-cent fare will, however, en
title the passenger to a transfer over any of the lines of the Hammond, Whiting and East Chicago line in North township. This makes it possible to
go from Highland to Hammond, Whit
ing, East Chicago and Indiana Harbor
for a ten-cent fare.
This feature makes a strong appeal
to the people of Highland and they
realize that it is the connection they must make by all means. The members of the board are also persuaded that It is advisable to grant the franchise before the provisions of the new
public utility law go into effect.
There was a conference between the"
board members and Manager H. C. Green of the street car company at Highland this afternoon, at which the
terms of the franchise were gone over
again.
A meeting is to be held either the
latter part of this week or the first part of next week to take up and pass
the franchise as finally agreed upon.
Charles Wirth is president of the
board, Henry S. Daugherty is the clerk, John Lynch is the treasurer, and Pe
ter Kooy and Henry Groot are the trustees.
The Gary & Southern is also before
the board seeking a franchise and the board is friendly to it, but on account
of the fact that the Green line haa now been granted a franchise in Munster, which extends to the Highland
