VISIT TO GARY PROVES VERY COSTLY Harbor Man's Friend Vanishes There With $250 of His Savings.
The Indiana Harbor police are looking for one Joseph Rita who until a day or two ago roomed at a boarding house at One Hundred and Thirtyeighth and Deodar streets with Gabriel Malangone. Rita is wanted for grand larceny. Rita and Malangone, were not only roommates but they .were friends and fellow-countrymen. Thursday they went to Gary to spend the afternoon. Toward evening, Rita disappeared and his friend, knowing that he was unacquainted In Gary, became alarmed lest he had grown confused and lost his way. He searched for him but without results so Malangone returned returned to Indiana Harbor alone, thinking that possibly he would find Rita there ahead of him. Rita was not there, however, and ln a llttile while Malangone had occasion to go to his trunk for something. To his consternation he found this upset and $250 which he had saved, missing. Ha at once suspected Rita, but could scarcely believe that his friends had been so treacherous. However he told his story to the police and they too, were at first inclined to think the money had been stolen by some other boarder or an outsider. They watched the house all night, waiting for Rita's return but he failed to show up.
