SOX FAIL TO PLAY; -GIVEfJJIG "FEED" Cold Weather Prevents Contest, But Players Attend Banquet at St. Joe.
St. Joseph, Mo., April 8. A strong wind from then orth yesterday, with a nowy feeling In It, caused the game between the White Sox athletes and the St. Joseph Drummers to be called oft. It was the third game of the spring training trip to be called off, which means It was the third day of idleness the Sox have had since about Feb. 24. Under those conditions they were glad to loaf, even if the big show is to start In three more days. The change In weather came during the night, and it was brought on by a rainstorm, which made the grounds here too heavy even for a good practice, so the boys did not have to do anything all day except hang around the hotel and play hearts, the popular Indoor pastime since the pin money needed for poker has been exhausted.
Less Than 100 Fans See Hoosiers Beaten in Final Exhibition, 7 to 4.
In the presence of less than 100 persons who did not have to stick around the Cubs trimmed the homeless Hoosiers. 7 to 4, yesterday in the final game of the series that was transferred here from Indianapolis. It was so cold the players did not dare to try to get up a perspiration for fear it would turn into icicles, and heavy garments impeded their efforts. But the Cubs were put through the full nine innings to harden them against the effects of similar conditions if they prevail on Thursday. Lavender waj given the slab assignment by Miager Kvrrs and progressed finely until the frost got into his four-cornered spitter and froze up the plumbing. That happened in the middle of the game and the Hoosiers played havoc with a lead of four runs which the Cubs had established in the first inning.

Realizing that the end of hie train
ing time is rapidly approaching, and eager to present himself in perfect
condition. Carl Anderson, the Ham
mond middleweight. Is strenuously
preparing himself for his coming bout with Tim O'Nell at the Hammond the
ater Thursday evening. Carl wants to get back good and atrong In the fight
ing game and realizes that a victory
over Tim O'Neil will shove him up on
the lader.
O'Nell is by no means a stranger in
Hammond, be having participated In a lively encounter with Phil Schlosa-
berg, the pride of the navy, at the H. A. A. grounds a year ago. Tim O'Neil Is training in Lewis' gym in Chicago and it is said he is keeping himself in grand shape, retiring to the hay every night at curfew time. Both Carl Anderson and O'Nell are regarded to be great mixers, with a knockout wallop concealed in the glove of either hand, and although the bout is only scheduled to go ten rounds, many boxing critics are predicting a knockout. Eddie Clabby, the brother of James, who will appear in one of the preliminary bouts, Is also training constantly.
