BEAUTY MY LOSE EYESIGHT

Miss Mary Mllhatian, the young Roumanian beauty who was stabbed by her jealous lover while on her way out of church In Indiana Harbor last Sun

day, is stlil In St. Margarets, and it is now feared that she may lose the sight of one eye, because of one of the cuts on her face. Some of the nerves of the eye were severed, and It Is feared that the loss of the, sight will result. The young woman had been In Indiana Harbor only about ten days when she was assaulted, her assailant having followed her from Detroit with murderous intent. He arrived In Indiana Harbor Sunday morning and learning that his enamorata was in church, entered ' the holy edifice and seating himself a few seats back of her, waited until she should leave the church, to make his attack on her. He cut her In a number bf placet, bat fled before finishing what he set out to accomplish.

He vnaa later arested and In order to es

cape the furious mob which gathered about the Indiana Harbor jalL was spirited away to East Chicago. He is

now incarcerated at "the county jail In

Crown Point, awaiting the outcome of his victim's injuries.

LAWYERS AWAIT NEW LAW DIGEST Much discussion has been going on among local attorneys since the receipt of the first digest of the new laws enacted by the last legislature. A number of acts of legislation dl- . rectly concerned the legal profession. One act makes it a misdemeanor for a person to practice law In a court where he has not formally been examined and admitted to practice. Indiana Is "about the only state in the union which does not restrict the practice of law to persons who have passed - a specified examination. ' Several attempts at amending the constitution have failed and this act was passed as a substitute for the amendment. Formerly a divorce complaint need

be on file ten days before the court

could act upon it, but now the time has been lengthened to sixty days.

The time limit for taking appeals to the higher courts has been shortened from one year to 180 days. .This waa calculated to cut down some of the

delays of the law.

Prosecuting attorneys are now al

lowed expenses on trips which they make in connection with criminal cases. They formerly had to pay

their own expenses on such trips.
