CELEBRATES A X X I V E K S A R Y . Mrs. A. H. Tapper entertained a number of children very charmingly yesterday afternoon at her home in Ann street in honor of her daughter, Getchen. The party celebrated Miss Getchen's twelfth birthday anniversary and she recived many pretty gifts In remembrance of the day. The guests at the party were the members of her class In school. There were twenty-one present. They played games and spent the afternoon In a delightful social way. A luncheon was' served in two courses. The hours of the party were from two until six o'clock. last Saturday evening at her home in Muenich Court in honor of her house guests, the Misses Nell and Kate Hanlion of Laporte, Ind. The evening was spent pleasantly with cards and music. The musical program was given after several games of '500"' had been played.
The games were played progressively
at two tables. At ten-thirty o'clock a
prettily appointed luncheon was served in two courses. The Misses Hannon concluded their visit in Hammond yesterday. Temperance Legion addressed the young people of the city on the temperance question with the result that a young people's branch of the Loyal Temperance Legion was organised. It will be under the leadership of Mrs. James Graves. The first meeting of the young people will be held Tuesday evening, April 8th at the home of Mrs. H. E. Granger. 488 Central Place. Vlco presidents will be appointed representing the various churches of the city. The young people have some splendid : plans in view for the near future and all interested in this national organization are invited to the meeting Tuesday evening. The following are the officers:

CAUSE DAMAGE
Five young fellows yesterday had
"friendly altercation" which consisted
of some rather rough horse play. In front of the grocery of Herod and Wadas. 150th street and Magoun avenue. East Chicago, and the result was the shottering of a sheet of plate glass valued at $150. The young men then ran away. The Incident was witnessed by a number, but none who saw it seem to have been acquainted with the identity of the miscreants. Mr. Herod complained to the police, who have detailed a man to look into the matter and it Is expected that some arrests will be made before the day is over.

Pulver Veach, the enterprising young son of H. W. Veach, is again working to win one of the contests which have been put on by a Chicago paper. ! He was third in the other contest and never had a chance to win, but he is nevertheless going after the bag of gold. The territory is divided into districts now and if he wins out In his district he will receive $300. Young Veach deserves - success and It would be a nice thing If the people of Hammond were to save all their coupons for him and help him out.
