A SURPRISE PARTY. A pleasant party was given as a surprfse to Mrs. Albert Rock j-esterday Bftrnoon at her home 610 Hoffman street. The party celebrated her birthflay anniversary and she received a number of pretty gifts In remembrance of the day. The truest spent the afternoon In a delightful social way. A luncheon was served In three courses at five o'clock. Mrs. Hock was assisted by her daughter. Miss Lucy Rock. Among the fruetss at the prety function were Mrs. John Campbell. Mrs. William Whltmore, Mrs. Harry Heaphy. Mrs. John Cuningham, Mrs. Fred Robinson, Mrs. Edward Brennan, and Masters James Campbell and Harold Heaphy. HOLD WEEKLY MEETING.

Frank Stakemlller who had charge of the program for the afternoon. After a reading by Miss Mildred Carter & paper on "Food, And It's Appeal to the Senses" was read by Mrs. Martin J. White. "Menus" was the subject of a paper read by Mrs. Q. L. Smith and Mrs. P. Smith read a very interesting paper on "Left Overs." A general discussion followed lead by Mrs. Smith. During the social hour a three course luncheon was served. The social hour was passed very pleasantly. There was a large attendance of the membership and everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the meeting. Announcement of next week's meeting will be made later. MRS. DIBOS A HOSTESS.

A very pleasant afternoon was spent by the members of Circle No. 1 who are Invited to meet with Mrs. Carolina Dibos at her home in Russell street

yesterday. Tt wasethe first meeting of the club since before the Lenten season and a number of the members were

prescent. The afternoon was devoted to cards and pedro was played progres

sively at four tables. Mrs. John Beckman, Mrs. Meyers and Mrs. Mat Klein won the honors in the games. After the card games the hostess served her guests with a dainty two course ulncheon. The next meeting will occur In two weeks and the hostess will be named later. MRS. HARRINGTON ENTERTAINS.

Aid Society of the Pine street Presbyterian church took place yesterday aft

ernoon In the parlors of the church In

Pine street. The early part of ths aft

ernoon was devoted to sewing and

quilting and quite a great deal of work for the church was accomplished. During the social hour a number of games were played. "The White Elephantgame furnished a great deal of amusement. Kach member brought from her home some article that she didn't care for and traded Ik at the meeting. Dainty refreshments were served. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. William Bothwell in Hoffman street on the afternoon of April 10. EXTERTAIXS WITH CARDS. Mrs. Henrietta Huber entertained the members of the Good Will Club very pleasantly yesterday afternoon at her home In Truman avenue. It was the first social meeting of the members since before the fenten season. Cards

were the - feature of the afternoon. Pedro was played progressively at three tables. The honors In the games were won by Mrs. Camp, Mrs. Huber, Mrs. Fred Kralowets and Ms. Charles Luthman. The consolation prize was awarded to Sirs. Smith. After the card games the hostess served her guests with a dainty luncheon. Twelve covers were laid at the luncheon table. The next club meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Fred Kralowetz lr Elm street. ESTERTAS INFORMALLY. The young women of the A. D. Q. Club were nicely entetrained by Miss Ethel Hoffman, at her home in Summer street last evening. Miss Hoffman was hostess at a thimble party. After a few hours spent pleasantly with their needle work the guetts were invited Into the dining room for refreshments. A dainty two course luncheon was servedOnly the youns women of the club were present last evening. In two wreks the club members will be guests at a thimble party at which Miss Ethel Shearer will entertain at her home In East Sibley street. YOIXG PEOPLE TAKE NOTICE. Orpheum Building In East State street last evening by the members of the Catholic Benevolent League. Mrs. Thompson Dead. 't Mary E. Thompson. 64 years old, wife of James Thompson, who resided with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Holder, 1125 Van Buren atreet, died at t o'clock this morning at her home. Her death wii caused by a pulmonary trouble. Services for the deceased will be held this evening at the residence at 7:30 o'clock, after which the body will be sent to Butler, Pa., for . interment. It w'll leave at 11:52 tonight via the Er.. Interment will be made at Butler next Monday.
