Visalia, Cal.. March 19. All business was suspended here yesterday afternoon because It was made one of tho most notable events since the days gold was discovered In the mountains ast of here. The town boasts 5,000 population, and more than 1,500 of them paid 50 cents and $1 to see the ' big: leaguers battle the Portland Pacific coast team. The game resulted in a tight victory for the White Sox, 5 to 4, and every one was satisfied. The feature was the number of automobiles present. It seems that nearly every other man In this section of the state owns a car, and all within forty miles of the burg were driven to the ball park. Automobiles were lined along the foul lines both in right and "left field as thickly as they would stand. More than a hundred were parked In the street and vacant lots outside.

CONTEST TONIGHT FOR CUE HONORS Willie Hoppe to Endeavor to Dethrone Morningstar at Pittsburg.

Hn titles -across the ocean with him. Morningstar never has been rated as a player who can do his best under a strain, but in the last, two matches against George Sutton he came from behind and won. Hoppe was considered well nigh invincible at the 18-1 game, and George Sutton occasioned some surprise on May 15 of last year. when he defeated Hoppe, 500 to 374. Morningstar then challenged the veteran Chlcagoan and defeated him. 500 to 463, on May 20 at Chicago. Sutton had another try for the title on Jan. 9 of the present year, but was defeated, 500 to 478, Morningstar scoring 103 points in his Tast three innings while Sutton was getting 23. Both men averaged a little oyer 15 and few matches for the "one shot in" emblem have gone higher than this. If Morningstar can go as fast as this against Hoppe tonight he has a chance to retain the championship, as Hoppe for some time has not played as confidently as he did a few years ago. Just when it looked as if John Horgan of St. Louis would gain permanent possession of the Jordan Lambert trophy emblematic of the three-cushion championship of the world Alfred De Oro,. holder of the pocket billiard championship, came to bat with a challenge. De Oro made his challenge when he was in Chicago recently, but it was not made public, as there was a possibility that Horgan, who is playing In San Francisco, might have made the Cuban do a lot of traveling. Horgan had the right to name his own city or the one In which he was temporarily residing. De Oro did not want to wait until he reached San Francisco ad then have Horgan pick St. Louis as the match town. It is expected that Horgan will name San Francisco, as business is reported brisk at Graney's academy, where he is performing.
