Recruits Repulse Fort Dade

Army Under Rapid Fire of Shrapnel Hits.

Tampa, Fia., March 10. The Cubs enjoyed a triple-header outing yesterday. They had a trip down the bay, inspected the big guns and fortifications at Fort Dade on .the gulf, and then in spite of the fact an order from the commandant could vlow them all into kingdom come, the Trojan warriors proceeded to lick Uncle Sam's soldier men. 13 to 0, in a seven-inning exhibition game. However straight and fatally the fort's artillery may shoot. Lieut. Eaaterday, who went on ' the firing line against the Cub Tanigans, had no terrors for the invaders. He was not sure of his aim and his ammunition "was not particularly effective when he did hit the target. " Fourteen safe swats were made off Easterday. of which Cap. Miller of the Tannlgans grabbed four and Wilbur Good three. A lot of the swats would not have happened if the lieutenantpitcher's support had been as good as his pitching. Private H. Smith, who occupied right field, ought to be confined in the guardhouse for 100 days for what he did not do. Several files fel Isafely in his territory,- and he caught only one out of many.

teams turned in scores above 1,200 Danchert and Bach of Milwaukee reg

istered the highest count, 1,214, and

were followed closely by Sothern and Palmer, another "Cream City" pair.

who rolled 1,211. '

The day was given largely to Mil

waukee, Peoria and Cincinnati bowlers.

The only change in the standings of the individual leaders of the tournament came in one of the late squads yesterday afternoon. Louis Berning of Cincinnati broke into the first division by his consistent rolling in the first two games of his series. He landed the fifth place. Startng out In his first game with a

frisky Seals in San Francisco, 3 to 2, in the afternoon. It was some day for the owner, because the boys played to a crowd of fully 6.000 persons in the morning .and more than 10,000 in the afternoon. It Is safe to say that Comlskey got more money today than he got on the whole training trip last season In Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa. In both games the crowd filled the stands and bleachers and spilled out on the field. Oakland's park Is sup

posed to seat over 6,000 and there were at least 1.000 in the field. San Francisco boasts of seats for 10,000, and there were about 1,000 in the outfield corners.
