The patty was planned by a number of younsr people as a surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas J. Austgen, whose marriage occurred In Chicago last "Wednesday. There were between forty and fifty guests and they brought with them beautiful gifts for the bride. The Kifts Included many articles of silverware and hand painted china. Games nd music were the social diversions. An elaborate luncheon was served during the evening. The party was one Of the delightful afTatrs of the season. Hill after which the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Walter Hammond, the chairman of the domestic science department who had the program In chargre. The openins number was a piano -trio by Virginia Ray, Florence Hammond and Majorie Ruff. These little ladles played very beautifully and were heartily applauded. Mrs. Paull, the teacher of domestic science at the Washington school gtv an interesting talk on "Home Economics." Assisted by. Mrs. W. J. McAleer she demonstrated bread, pastry and cake making. After the program a two course luncheon was served and the guests met socially for conversa

tion. There was a large attendance at the meeting. Next Thursday afternoon Mrs. A. C. Berry of Warren street will be at home to the members of the Union. An interesting program is being prepared and it is desired that there

MISS BUMP .A HOSTESS. . A number of Hammond and East Chicago young women Were delightfully entertained by Miss Alice Bump at her home in East State street last evening. Miss Bump's guests were the members of the W. O. W. Club of East Chicago and the A. IX Q. Club of Hammond. A part of the evening was spent very pleasantly with needle work.

Music was also a feature Of the evening.

At ten o'clock the guests were invited into the dining room for refreshments. A prettily appointed luncheon was serv

The announcement was made of the next regular meeting to be held in two weeks. The hostes will be named later.
