Messrs. Charles .Wilcox, W. C. .Barrett and Julius McCloud of Indiana Harbor were the victims of an automobile accident Sunday morning as the party was passing' through Hessville on the way back from Chicago in Mr. Wil

none of them seriously. The accident was caused by the casing and rim on the left hind wheel flying off rendering the auto unmanageable and making it impossible for Mr. Wilcor, who was driving to avoid a telegraph pole that the machine headed for. Mr. Wilcox was thrown against the steering wheel by the impact with the post, and was bruised about the abdomen, while Mr. Barrett and Mr. McCloud were thrown out of the machine the former being hurt in the shoulder and the latter re- , celving some cuts on the face and i head. j Immediately after the accident Mr. i Wilcox went to the nearest telephone and called up Bart Brlney In the Harbor who went out in his machine and brought in the injured men and machine. Mr. Barrett was entertaining his brother who. is a physician in Chicago and who expected to remain in the Harbor over Sunday, but at 3 o'clock

The railroads disapprove of placing an issue involving ?9,00M)00 up to practically ona man. The railroads want a larger arbitration board and one to consist of high class men from the highest walks of life. They would rather leave the

Three cars belonging to a fast freight on the B. & O., west bound, went off the tracks near the depot at Indiana Harbor yesterday and piled up in the ditch, alongside of the right of way. The accident was caused by the part
ing of the rigging attached to the brake on one of the cars. It is not
known when the rigging parted, but when the train struck the crossing near the depot, one of the swinging parts caught a plank, wrechlng it from lts fastenings and swinging it around crosswise of the track. ' This caused the car to leave the track, and it digression was responsible for two more of. the cars to do likewise, with the result that there was a pretty bad. mixup when the train was finally brought to a stand. The fact that the tratB was heavily laden, .made the situation the more perilous. One o the cars rang along for fifty feet on its side. Traffic was Interrupted for tfuite a while, while the wreckage was being cleared away.

The ultlicatum from the railroads that they would positively not accept arbitration under the terms of the Erdman act was looked upon as having determined the issue, but at the request of Judge Knapp and Commissioner Hangar, ; President Carter - of - the Brotherhood, was asked to defer calling the strike until after one more con
ference could be held. Mr. Lee denied the assertion by Mr. Carter that the engineers had not yet received the increase . awarded them seven months ago by the Straus com
mission and said that many of the roads had raised the wages and that others were doing so.
