The Hammond Woman's Club enter

tained at one of the nicest social func.

Ions of tha season last niht, Thursday,

in honor of "Gentlemen's Evening:." Representative club women, their hus

bands and friends numbering three

hundred in all gathered at seven-thrty

oclock for a formal dinner. Among the guests were out of town members

of the club including several from East Chicago and Indiana Harbor. The past

presidents and members of the executive board received. They were In line from seven until half after seven o'clock when the doors to the dining

room were thrown open. The central table was reserved for the past presi

dents and members of the executive

board and for those guests who appeared on the program. Mrs. Richard IX Wlnckler, president of the Hammond Woman's Club, and her husband occupied the places of honor at the head of the table. The guests found their places at the live remaining tables

where the dinner cards had been ar

ranged ..alphabetically. ... The Masonic Temple which was the scene' of the reception and dinner was .-beautifully decorated. The decorations centered

about the tables in the main banqueting room. Potted ferns and blooming

daisies and streamers of yellow and

white tulle with which the tables were

ornamented made the effect most attractive. There were palms tastefully

distributed throughout the hall, and

the daisy, the club flowers was conspicuously in evidence. The club colors of yellow and white were further car

ried out in the decorations by the drap

ing of the several pillars in the hall.

The elegance of the costumes worn by the members of the club and their guests added much to the brilliancy of the occasion. The daughters of the

members served. They wore daintywhite gowns, with yellow bands in their hair and sashes of yellow ribbon. After the Invocation was pronounced

by the Rev. Charles Albeit Smith, rector of St. Tauls Episcopal church, the company was seated. The dinner was served in live courses. The program was one of the most delightful that has characterized any event of the season In Hammond. The first 'number, a

vocal duet by Mrs. I, 1 Romberger and Mrs. William Craig was given between the first and second courses of the dinner. They sang very sweetly "Across The Still Lagoon" by Lope. In gracious response to an encore they sang "Nearest and Dearest"' a little Tuscan folk song. The piano accompaniment was played by Miss Mae Hanson. Miss Hanson also acompanied Mr. Kunst who played a group of three very beautiful violin selections (a) "Second Movement from Violin Concert" by Xiels Gade, b) "Minnette" byJoe Kunst (c) "Serenade" by Franz Schubert. Mrs. Wlnckler in her address "Our Club" gave the guests a hearty welcome and told what the club means to Hammond. Mrs. Wlnckler proposed the following toasts and Ihose who responded were: " ' "Club Women". .Judge Virgil S. Reiter

"Stay-at-home Wives" Dr. H. E. Sharrer "Stay-at-home Husbands" Mrs. J. M. Turner "Club Women's Children" Mr. Robinson "Cartoons" Miss Muriel Wilcox "Short History of the Hammond Woman's Club". . . .Mrs. L. A. Minard "Original Poem". .Mrs. Ralph W. Ross Much praise Is due Mrs. T: W. Oberlin, the chairman of the 1013 social committee who had the details of the dinner in charge, also the arrangement cf the decorations. Serving with Mrs. Oberlin on the committee were Mrs. Joseph Thompson, the vice chairman and Mesdames F. S. Retz, J. 11. McClay, W. J. MacAleer, J. K. Stinson, Harry Smith, William J. Moran, Virgil S.
