A PBETTV SOCIAL EVENT. Mrs. John H. McClay very charmingly entertained the members of the Columbia Club at her Homewood residence yesterday afternoon ' from three to six o'clock. The afternoon wai spent very pleasantly at the card-' tables. Progressive euchre was played and high scores for the afternon were made by Mrs. W. F. Mashtno and Mrs. John K. Fltsgerald. They were award ed very pretty prizes. The guests played at four tables. After the card
games a five course luncheon was served. The table appointments were pink and white. Bouquets of pink kilarney roses and pretty greenery decorated the luncheon tables. In company with the members of the club Mrs. MoClay entertained a number of guests at luncheon, among them Mrs. Lemon, Mrs. Frederick R. Mott, Mrs. V. G. Taxton. Mrs. B. L. P. Bell and Mrs. F. C. Demlng. In two weeks on Thursday afternoon the members will have their next regular meeting. Mrs.-Charles Kasson wil entertain at her home in Webb street. The usual program of the club will be followed. MRS. EDER A HOSTESS. At her Kouth Ilohman street residence, Mrs. George M. Eder was hostess yesterday afternoon to the members of Sewing Circle No. 2 of St. Margaret's Hospital at their first meeting after the holiday vacation. Mrs. Eder entertained with card and the guests played pedro at four tables. The awards were given after several games had been played. Mrs. William D. Wet3 won first honors and Mrs. Oscar Plageman the second. The consolation priie was awarded to Mrs. Nicholas. A dainty luncheon was served in two courses at five o'clock. Arrangements wore made to have the next meeting in two weeks on Thursday afternoon January 23rd when Mrs. George Emmerling of Russel street will be hostess. Wilson entertained a small company of Hammond and out of town friends and relatives at dinner at one clock Yesterday at her homo, 409 Summer street, a prettily appointed dinner was served after which the guests returned to the parlors and spent an enjoyable afternoon with their needle work. The members of the Martha Society of the First Christian church met for an all day session yesterday in the parlors of the church In Calumet avenue. Dinner was served the 'guests at noon and the remainder of the day was devoted to sewing. A great deal of work for the benefit of the society was accomplished. It was announced that-there would be another all day session next Thursday and it is desired that many members attend. A HRIDUE PARTY. The first Of the 1913 aerio nf nirtlM for the ladles of the members of the Hammond Country Club was given esterday afternoon at the club house. There were twenty-four guests. The hours from two to five o'clock were de oted to cards and bridge whist was played progressively at six tables. Honors were won by Mrs: C. O. Klnawill and Mrs. B. L. P. Bell whose scores were S24 and 802 respectively. Very pretty prizes were awarded. The party i-as - on of the very enjoyable week nd social affairs. A BOARD MEETING. A very en lovable afternoon wai spent by the members of the Idle Hour Club who were entertained at the home of Mrs. Fred Collins In Beall avenue yesterday. Pedro was played at two tables during .the afternoon. Mlam Margaret Boldt won the first honors In me games. Mrs. Frank Orova the sec ond and Mrs. Frederick A. Bull, the third. The consolation nrlse awarded to Mrs. R..E. Schoff. The card games were followed with a lunchon daintily served in two courses. Eight covers were laid. Mrs. Smith of Fayette street was hostess yesterday afternoon to the members of the Good Will Club. The members met to play cards and after several games of pedro. the awards were given. A SI RPR IS K PtHTV, Two hundred or more Hammond on out of town people gathered at the Da Pron Hall in the OrpheUm building last evening In response to Invitations is sued for a surprise dancing party 1 honor of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schutz o East State street. With the exceptlo of the out of town friends and relative of Mr. and Mrs. Schutz the compan was composed almost entirely of Ham mond's old settlers. Mrs. Schutz wa the recipient of numerous bouquets o nowers. Barney Young's orchestra played during the evening and thei program was enjoyed by all. Every selection played for the dances was en cored again and again. The program of dances continued from eight until twelve o'clock after which the guests were invited to Mr. and Mrs. Schutz apartments on the third floor of the Orpheum building where ' supper was served. The tables were decorated very beautifully with American beauty roses and carnations. The color scheme in the two parluors was carried out in red and white. A two course supper was served. The guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening's entertainment. Miss Anna Knoerser was the honor guest at a bride's party given by Miss Mona Krost at her home In Doty street last evening. The party was the first In the series which will be given for Mlfia Knoerzer before her marriage tu Oscar Faber of Minneapolis, which will be solemnized Tuesday, Feb. 4th. MIsb Krost entertained the mother of the bride-elect together with fourteen of her young women friends. A part of the evening was spent pleasantly with music and games after which the guests were Invited into the dining room for refreshments. A two-course luncheon was servaed. Little rupids marked the places of the guests at the table, and at each cover was a little bride. A doll dressed to represent a groom was the favor for Miss Knoerzer. Ribbons were stretched from the chandelier to each cover. Attached to each ribbon stream er was a quotation or verae on love which the guests read after the serving of the luncheon. T the ribbon streamer which lead to the place re served for Miss Knoerzer was attached a handsome set of doilies, the gift of the hostess. A bouquet of pink rose buds decorated the center of the table. The bridal colors, pink and white were carried out in the table ppointments. Pretty decorations of flowers and greenery were used in the parlors. A SOCIAL. The Kpworth League of the Method ist church will give a "Penny Social" In the parlors of the church tonight. Everyone is invited to come and bring pennies. A special Invitation has been issued to the members of the East Chi cago League. Games will be played and refreshments served. A meeting of William H. Calkins W. R. C. No. 248 took place yesterday aft ernoon in the I. O. O. F. Hall In East State street. There was a large .attendance of the members and visitors were present from William H. Calkins Post O. A. , R. Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the meeting. A feature of the afternoon was the an nual installation of officers. Mrs. Alice Haney acted as the Installing officer. Mrs. Elizabeth Barker who so capably presided over the meetings last year was re-elected president of the society to serve during the year 191S. In behalf of the corps Mrs. Wheeler presented Mrs. Barker with a bouquet of pret ty flowers. Following the Installation exercises refreshments were served by a committee. A delightful social hour was passed. In two weeks there will be another meeting an dthe usual business and social program will be followed. Train Flippers Discharged. nuDsn siover or coal creek, Tenn.. and Edward Watson of Lima, O., were arrested by Special Agent Leverton of the Erie railroad at Griffith, Ind., this morning. From Griffith they were brought -to Hammond on a charge of train bipplng and carrying " concealed weapons. After being thoroughly questioned by City Judge" Barnett both men were able to give a good account of themselves and were released.
