Mrs. George Hannauer opened her pretty hew home at the corner of Ruth ind State Line streets last Saturday evening'for the meeting of the Mozart Club. ;, A" number of members attended and listened to a very, excellent pro-: gram. Mrs. Clark learning read a paper! on the Grieg Sonatas which was very interesting. Th Sonata in O minor by Grieg- was beautifully rendered by Mrs.' Uwrmee Becker. The violin number by Miss LiUjati pixon was one of the . enjoyable numbers on . the program. ! Hep .piano accompaniment, was played j by bin Williams of Rks.Chicago. At the close of the program announcement was made j of the next meeting to be held on the evening of January 18th at the Hammond Musical College. It will be "Italian Ipera Night" and Mrs. C. G. Kfngwlll will- have the program in charge. The concent will be one of the best of the season and is anticipated with a great deal of pleasure. A BRIDGE PART V. Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. "Wilson were host and hostess to the members of the Evening Bridge Club at one of the delightful parties of the week end Saturday at their Homewood - residence. "Bridge whist was played during the evening. The games progressed at four tables. Mr. Fred Crumpacker and Victor Dyer had high scores and were awarded pretty favors. After the card games a two course lunchseon was served. Sixteen covers were laid. The-new Ahrens-Fox - auta fire engine which arrived Thursday was given an official test Saturday afternoon, under the directions of John P. Ahrens vice" president of the ' company, with such decided success that as soon-as it was over the machine was accepted by the city of Indiana Harbor and placed in commission at once. The exhibition was witnessed . by Mayor A. G. Schlleker and members of the council, together with officials from neighboring towns amonst whom were Mayor Beaumont Parks of Whiting, John L. Rhode president of the board of public works and Peter Dlllschneider chief of the fire department of Hammond. All who were present at the demonstration were much Impressed with the effectiveness of the big machine's work and ths generosity with which it Monday afternoon, January 20th at the home of Mrs. M. The machine was guaranteed to pump 700 gallons per minute but there was not a single test in which it did rot exceed that amount by over Htf -nllnn Tha first t . f wan tvnf line of hose an inch and an eighth nozzle attached to each. The" water thrown in this test was 810 gallons as shown by the register. Inch and a quarter nozzles were then, attached and 840 gallons was registered. A Siamese connection was then f "made with one one inch and three quarter nozzle to both lines of hose and 850 gallons was the result. Mr. Ahrens then ordered a two inch nozzle connected the same way and the enormous quantity of 940 gallons per minute was the result. A height test through 350 feet of hose was then - given' and a stream thrown at least 60 "feet above the stand-pipe her hoine In Warren street. It will be the first meeting In several weeks on account of the holidays and the absence of, members from the city. The usual social program of the club will be followed. MRS. VAl'X A HOSTESS. which Is 120 feet high. The road test was the next on the program and a trip to Hammond was made for that purpose. The different fire stations there were visited and a run up Hohman street to Conkey avenue made. Inuring this test the auto reached a speed of 36 miles an hour and the absence of Jolting nothwithstanding the solid tires was one of the features observed by those who were riding in it. The price of the machine Is $10,000 but by a special arrangement the city is only paying $9,250 for it. Mr. Ahrens leaves for Cincinnati tonight but two of his experts Mr. Warren Kipp and Mr. Arnold Neuschwander will remain to break in the local men to operate the machine. Mrs. George Stiles -celebrated her birthday annivrsary today by entertaining a small company of relatives and friends at luncheon at her home in Ogden street. Twelve covers were laid. The luncheon was served at twelve o'clock. The table appointments-were in green and white flowers and greenery forming an attractive center piece for the table. The guests brought their needle work. Music was also a delightful .feature of th after noon Mrs.-Stiles was the recipient Ttf many beautiful gifts. Among the gvas" at luncheon were Mrs. Mabel of West Virginia, Mrs. Julius Eaton, Mrs. Lawrence Becker, Mrs. C. G. Mr. and Mrs. John Wilhelm very de lightfully entertained a number of friends at their home, 14 Ogden street last Saturday evening. Among the guests were members of Progressive Court Xo. 166 Tribe of Ben Hur. There were thirty friends . and relatives present. The party celebrated the twentieth aiwiiversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm and they re ceived numerous pretty gifts In cut glass and hand painted china in re membrance of the day. Music was the feature of the evening. After the pro gram a dainty collation was served. A BRIDGE LUNCHEON.
