MERE FROM MONTREAL. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Stolkowitas and little son of Montreal, Canada, are the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hutton, 98 Ogden street for the. holiday season. Mrs. Stoikowitz will remain with her parents for several weeks. Mrs. Htolkowtts was formerly Miss Frances Hutton. GIKSTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lyons and children of South Bend, lnd arrived In Hammond today to spend the holidays with Mrs. Lyon's mother, Mrs. Margaret Hastings at her home in State street. Miss Lillian Clark who Is attending school at Bourbonnais, 111., will spend her 'vacation with Mrs. Hastings and family.

A CIRCLE. The First Spiritualist Society will

have a circle Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of Mrs. Emma Kroer, 292 Truman avenue. There will

also be a circle in the evening at seven

o'clock at which it is desired that there

is a large attendance. A DINNER RANCE. Invitations have been sent to University Club members to attend a dinner dance to be held in the club rooms on the evening of December 2"th at six-thirty o'clock. Reservations' ai-d mony should be sent to Miss Hedwlj Thum, 44 Webb street by the morning of December 25th. Plates will be three dollars per couple and as many as posible are urged to attend as it will be the only formal affair of the season given by the University Club. A CHRISTMAS PARTY. The entertainment committee of the Hammond Country Club has arranged a Christmas tree party for Thursday, December 26th to which all children of members are invited. Children twelve years and under will be entertained with stories from Santa Claus and

games between the hours of five and nine o'clock. Refreshments will be served. Cards and dancing will be enjoyed by the club members from nine to twelve o'clock. XO MEETING THIS WEEK. On account of the holiday season and the absence of members from the city, the meeting of the Embroidery Club was postponed this week. The next meeting will take place the first Mon

day afternoon In the New Year and Mrs. Fred Crumpacker of Warren street will be hostess. Mrs. Crumpacker will entertain 'at a thimble party. ENTERTAINS WITH CARDS. Mrs. John Nicklaus will have the members of the Good Will Club as her guests at her home 'In Gostlin street Thursday afternoon." Mrs. Nicklaus will entertain with cards. Pedro will be played progressively at three tables during the afternoon. A QUET WEDDING. A very quiet but pretty wedding was

solemnized last evening at the Methodist parsonage In Rusell street when Miss Linnle Crowell and William Shuge were united In marriage. The ceremony was read at seven-thirty o'clock. The Rev. Frank O. Fraley, pastor of the First M. E. church officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Shuge . will be at home to their friends at 122 Condlt street. They have their home all in readiness. Mrs. Shuge is a daughter of A. E. Crowll of Hammond. She has lived in Hammond for a number of years and has a large circle of friends among the young people of the city. Mr. Shuge is employed in the E. C. Minas department store in State street.

AT THE LUTHERAN CHURCH. Christmas exercises at Pauls Lutheran church will be held at seven

o'clock this evening. There will be a

tree. The songs and recitations will be given by the pupils of the parochial school and Sunday school. St. Paul's mixed choir will assist with the program. German services tomorrow and Thursday wil be held at ten o'clock in the morning. The English services Christmas day will be held at seventhirty o'clock. There will be special music by . both church choirs. A CANTATA. A cantata 'Mother Goose's Visit to Santa Claus" was given by the Sunday school of Monroe street Methodist chapel last evening before la large audience composed of the members of the church and their friends. The evening's program was very delightful. There were pretty decorations iu the church. The holiday colors, red and green were carried out in all the decorations. There was a Santa Claus house and the Christmas tree was trimmed very attractively. CHRISTMAS EXERCISES. The program given by the children of the Methodist Sunday school in the auditorium of the church in Russell street last evening was heard by a

ILodge Assemblies

A pleasant meeting of the Court of Honor took place last evening in Weis Hall in State street. The meeting' was enjoyed by a large number of members.

The members remained after the business session to enjoy the social hour. Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be held In two weeks. A delightful program of entertainment has been arranged for the social hour. A large attendance of the membership is desired. This afternoon the members of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the B. of K. T. will meet at the K. of P. Hall in South Hohman street for their regular semimonthly meeting. There will be installation of officers. Following the lodge session refreshments will be served and a pleasant time will be spent socially. It was desired that many members a'tend. There will be a meeting of Progressive Court No. 166 Tribe of Ben Hur this evening In the K. of P. Hall In

south Hohman street. The members ! will meet for a short business session. j

Awaiting Big Dance. The members of the Hammond Motor Boat club are resting on their oars, so to speak.V- In the meantime the good ship Activity is being rigged up fore and aft to weather the high waves of society which are annually encountered in the first month of the year and which the landlubbers term the motor boat dance. The dance ia scheduled for January 16 and will be given at the Masonic temple. The invitations will go out shortly after Christmas.

Death of P. J. Burke. Patrick J. Burke, 730 Calumet avenue a. resident of Hammond for the past 7 years died at the family residence this morning at 6:30 o'clock following a lingering illness, extending over a period of nearly three years. Death was due to tuberculosis. This evening the remains will be shipped to St. Claire, Pa., his former home where funeral services and interment will be made Thursday. Mr. Burke was taken 111 nearly three years ago and although he has been ailing, he has been able to be up and around at work. Not until two weeks ago was he confined to his bed and suffering a relapse yesterday, passed away at the family residence this morning at 6:30 o'clock. Mr. Burke came to Hammond 7 years ago and has been employed on the C. I. & S. as a detective. He acquired a large circle of friends and was well known among all the railroad men of the Calumet region. He was 42 years old and besides belonging to the Masonic order he was a Maccaboe. He is survived by a wife and two children.

Whiting Men Hurt. James Blacken, 412 John street. Whiting was painfully injured at Hohman street and Flummer avenue, Hammond this morning when he stepped In front of the Calumet Pickle Company's truck, narrowly escaping instant death. The Emmerllng ambulance, iu charge of Dr. White, the injured man was rushed to St. Margaret's Hospital where it was found that his Injuries consisted mainly of severe bruises. Besides a lacerated head his face was scratched and suffered nearly all the bruises on the right side of his body. The accident occured at Hohman street and Plummer avenue about 11:30 a. m. this morning. V. D. Ross was driving the truck which was coming south on Hohman street. At Plummer avenue the truck turned west as Blacken stepped in front of the heavy truck. As the machine struck him. Blacken was thrown to the ground barely escaping being run over by the wheels. He Is reported getting along nicely at St. Margaret's hospital this afternoon.

Eggs Drop. , Kgg went down to 25 cents a dozen today. They were offered for that at the Lion Store. This is futtlling Market Master O'Rourke's prophesy, made three months ago, that eggs would sell for 25 cents before Christmas.

Nominations Made. Nominations for officers In the K. of P. lodge of Hammond were made last right and will remain open until next Monday evening, when the election of officers will be held. A good list of names was presented at the meeting last night.
