Joe McGeth, 35 years old, an Irishman, who went on a rampage after drinking some Gary whisky, the police say, yesterday tried to lick thrtie mon and then ended up by attacking s young woman, received summary punishment ln the Gary police court today. McGeth was walking down Adams street, near Fifteenth avenue, yesterday afternoon when he ran amuck. He struck at three men and then bounding down the street he met Miss Lena Anderson, Twenty-second avenue and Massachusetts street. He knocked Miss Anderson ' down and started to choke her. Several men who heard the girl's screams ran to her assistance. They grabbed McGeth and gave, hi ma good beating and held him until Police Captain Newman arrived. Today McGeth was fined $110 and sentenced to 90 days ln the county jail.

Officer Jlmmie O'Connell is the hero of the hour In Indiana Harbor. On Saturday at six o'clock he distinguished himself by an act of bravery, which undoubtedly saved many from , Injury, and possibly from death, taking his own life in his hands in doing so. Officer O'Connell was leaving the station in company with Sergeant Barker in response to a call to go over to William Subotlch's saloon at 137th and Beech streets, where a would be forged check passer was being forcibly detained, pending their arrival. horse, attached to a wagon belonging to the Sanitary Pop Works, whose establishment is located In One Hundred, and Thirty-seventh, came dashing down Guthrie street from Michigan avenue. Wooden cases and pop bottles were flying In every direction. The mill workers thronged the streets at that time on their way home from work. There must have been five hundred of them in the street and on the sidewalk as the horse made its appar-ance.
Th crowd stood spell bound. Not Officer O'Connell, however. He was out In the street and beside the horse.
In a jiffy. He ran alongside of the animal for fifty feet, when he managed to get hold of the flying reins. He was dragged under the animal and for a moment the crowd expected to see him trampled to death. The expected did not ""happen, however. The horse was stopped after a few fet further fight and tied to a post, while Officer O'Connel was surrounded by an admiring crowd, who clapped and shook hands with him, congratulating him on his bravery. The grim reaper has been busy ln Gary during the past three days and several well-known residents have passed away since Saturday. Man Drops Dead. While celebrating the approach of Christmas with several of his friends yesterday morning, Stephen Faballch, a
steel worker, 35 years old, living at 1095 Adams street, suddenly keeled over. His friends picked him up, thinking, that he had fainted, but when a physician was called, he declared that Fabalich had died when he fell. Dr. Frank Smith, coroner of Lake county, today ordered a post-mortem over the remains of the steel worker. It was reported to the coroner that Fabalich was recently injured while at work ln the steel mills. Death of Mr. Gamble. The death occurred yesterday morning at the Mercy hospital of Mrs. Kittie Gamble. She was In her 49th year. Mrs. Gamble made her home with her daughter, Mrs. George Rose, 806 Broadway. .
