A Ll'XCHEOX. Mrs.' Robert GiUis entertained very charmingly at a one o'clock luncheon and thimble party yesterday at her home In Rlmbach avenue. Her fruests wer the members of th Alpha Plit .Club. The home was decorated at.tractlvly with the colors of the season, red and Rreen. An artt basket flllnd with red roses and tied with streamers of red satin ribbon decorated the center of the luncheon table. -Holly was also used In the decoration of the table. The luncheon was served in. four courses. During: the afternoon the gusts listened to several beautiful selections played on the Vlctrola and spent a few hours very pleasantly with their needle work. Several of the members are out of the city for the holiday season so that not all the members were present yesterday. It was? decided to have the next club 'party In four weeks Instead of two at the horn of Mrs. H. B. Douglas in Olendale Park. A CHRISTMAS PARTY. The entertainment committee of the Hammond Country Club has arranged
a Christmas tree party for Thursday
December 26th to which all children of members are invited. Children twelve
years and under will be entertained with stories from Santa Claua and games between the hours of five and
ntne o'clock'. They will also be served with refreshments. The members of
the club will meet at nine o'clock.
Cards and dancing will be included in the evening's program and refreshments will be served. The parties will be among the very delightful affairs of the holiday week. MRS. StOWDEX A HOSTESS. Mrs. F. A. Scowden entertained the members of the Oak Leaf Embroidery Club very pleasantly at her home in Ada street Thursday afternoon. The mebers brought their needle work, A dainty luncheon was served in two courses at four-thirty o'clock after the guests had devoted a few hours to their needle work. The luncheon table was decorated very prettily with holly, carrying out a color scheme -in red and green. In two weeks Mrs. Hal Young will entertain the members at a thimble party at her home in Truman avenue.

Detroit Street Fire. A small blaze caused considerable damage to a new house owned by Morris Bros, at 173 Detroit street yesterday afternoon, fire departments No. 1 and 3 responding to the alarm. The departments had the flames under control in a short time. The origin is unknown and the damage was not estimated. Department No. 3 made a run to Cameron street, but the blaze had been extinguished before they arrived.

Will Study Medicine. "Walter Kennedy who ! a. Junior in the University of Chicago is expected to return home this afternoon to spend a week or ten days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Kennedy, 312 Truman avenue. The young man has another year and a half to study, to finish his university course. In his last year he will take up the study of medicine, with a view of entering the medical profession eventually.
