A FOIIMAL. PARTY.

The most' delightful party yet given

In the Hammond Country Club occurred

in the ball room last night, the occasion being the first formal dance of the

season. About 30 couples attended.

Owing to the great amount of sickness

in the-city many who had planned to attend were kept away.

It was a very charming social func

tion and the attendance showed con

clusively that the city has a. circleelect that could be introduced any

where. Some very striking gowns en

hanced the affair.

A splendid orchestra played a dance

program of thirty dance starting at

8:30 and lasting till midnight. Punch was served during the dances and a collation afterwards.

AN AFTERXOOX P4I1TV.

Mrs. Frederick A. Bull gave a very

delightful party at her home in Ann

street yesterday afternoon in honor of

the members of the Idle Hour Club. Pedro was played during the afternoon. The first honors were won by Mrs. Fred

Collins and prizes were also won by

Mrs. J. P. Ryan and Mrs. Stewart. Mrs.

Charles Hubbard was awarded the con

solatlon prize. The games progressed

at two tables, A dainty luncheon was served In two courses at the conclusion of the card games. On account of the

holiday season there- will, be no meet

ing in two weeks. In four weeks on

Thursday Mrs. Fred Collins will enter

tain the members at her home in Beall

avenue. Cards will again be the feat

ure of entertainment.

METE 1 riUltlll PARLORS. The Baptist Women's Union met in the church parlors yesterday afternoon. It was the regular weely meeting and there was the usual large attendance of members. The president, Mrs. W. A. Hill presided and also lead the devotional exercises after which the program for the afternoon was gevin. The Child Culture sectnon of which Mrs. Hamacher is chairman had charge of the program. Several excellent papers were read and the song by Miss Erlene Anderson was very much enjoyed. The program was one of the best of the
