Finally to prevent a collision with a couple of carriages he steered it into the fence in front of the school house yard. The machine was stopped after it ha.l mowed down several yards of fence. The trouble happened when MeAeer attempted to start the car. He fpun her around a couple of times and she would start. He gave her more gasoline and spun her around again. She Ptill refused to start. He gave her still more pasoline and
up. McAleer jumped on the running board and grabbed the wheel. He also turned off the buttery, but the car backed up with increased speed. He steered the car off from Fayette street and around the corner onto II oilman street. The speed increased until it was at least twenty miles an hour. All of the time McAleer was making frantic effort to stop the car. Finally he saw that if he went anyfarther he would have a collision with a couple of carriages and mlsrht possibly hit some school children. Ho he steered the car into the fence in front of the fence was mowed down, but the car was stopped. McAleer was not hurt. He cannot understand why the car could not be stopped.
