Bachelors of the city

everywhere. The letter reads: i Hammond, Ind., Nov. 25. i Editor Times: ! Soon we will have Christmas. Has it ever ooourrfd to you that Hammond has within its bounds the so-called Crood Fellowthe fellow that would be ; a real Santa Claus to a poor pirl or boy yes. even a dest rvlng widow. AVe

whom had been "sweet upon her."
always was the happiest days of my life yet T would not be true to my conscience if I would not confess that I ever passed a happier Christmas than I did last ye .-it- when I was a Santa Claus to a little fatherless boy. 1 did riot have any conception that there would be so much joy and real pleasure in witnessing the youngster who was so overjoyed with the real unexpected Santa Claus. I consider myself handsomely rewarded, for 1 well knew that the money expended otherwise
LOTS MORE WHENCE IT CAME
THE TIMES wishes to acknowledge its appreciation of the unexpected
volume of praise for its editorial on the shaking and the rattling of the dry bones In Hammond.
i It really Is amazing to think of the number of people in Hammond who are nauseated with politics. And political .manipulation in national politics; with municipal politics they are absolutely disgusted. The politicians, the pie. counter warmers, the pap-seekers and the defenders of the administration right or wrong should take a swift tumble to themselves. Some of these days they will sink so far in the rut that there won't be f nything left of them. A little snatch of the pap-bottle would send some of them there now. Hammond faces a municipal revolution. There will be a lot of screaming, of shouting, of pleas for help, there are those who will yell "bloody murder," but the go-ahead element In the city will giggle at the screamers. A few years ago, W. H. Moran city controller of Detroit was instrumental in purchasing Island Park for the city for $230,000. A certain element in Detroit almost crucified him. "Look what they are doing to me," said Mr. Moran to the general manager of this paper as he picked up a newspaper that was villifying him.
"Don't you worry," was the advice he got. "SOME DAY THEY -WILL
BUILD A MONUMENT TO YOU." Listen.
Island Park is Detroit's magnificent feature today. The city has been offered five million dollars for it and IT IS WORTH TEN7 MILLIONS and they are building a monument to Billy Moran. Oh you barnacle! You mill-stone on Hammond's neck. Take-to the tall limber. There's a storm coming.
He left the chaise and Pobbln on the old farm In the barn. And he came in a new sixty horse power four cylinder seven seated
puffamobile, and you wouldn't take him for anything but a chap who'd spent all It is life in the city; and ho didn't dodge the street cars, or rubber at the tall buildings, or bet on the shell game. Oh. no! Hut he did get pinched for speeding up Grand avenue at midnight with a couple of wrens at a ninety mile clip And passe are the ruhe and the city Jokes. Milwaukee Sentinel.

In looked a bit smarter, presents for all; Jny chlldhood days T had the KOOd for of them, rice in her coiffure and on tune to enjoy a real Christmas and it
her hat when they boarded the train to take them away, horrible fear lest her train had been caught up behind while she was walking down the aisle, and the customary oscillatory assault upon her checks and lips, with casual remarks from nearby and envious woman friends as to the lack of color or the superabundance thereof in her face. Maybe they were right.
Hammond has many care-free Good Fellows, who would gladly be a real Santa Claus if they were but steered in the riRht direction. I know and come In contact with many, who seemingly are helpless, but are most will-ins-when you tell them how. Could not the names and addresses of deserving children and widows be sent to your office, which, no doubt, could and would be cheerfully supplied through the various schools, churches and the police department and you in turn could supply the Good Fellow with as many names as he wanted to be Santa
Claus to. I am thoroughly convinced that the pood fellow who will be a real Santu Claus to the boys and girls will spend a happier and more jojous Christmas than his childhood days have In store or than any little youngster ever dreamed about. Your help, your suggestion and support we want. Will you be with us. Sincerely. A "GOOD FELLOW BACHELOR.

This height has been obtained by the contractors erecting the new theatre building, which Is the city's first "skyscraper." There is talk of a couple of six and eight-story buildings for Gary. At its present rate of progress we expect that Gary will have real skyscrapers In the nest few years.

We now find that there are many who have not taken advantage of our generous offer because they didn't get a chance to clip the entire set of coupons. We want to give them this LAST CHANCE. We want to close this great educational distribution in a blaze of excitement. We want you and every one of your friends to have this wonderful book. Thousands of THE TIMES readers who have received a copy of the beautiful New Websterian Dictionary Illustrated, are loud in their praise of its many excellent qualities which make it a HOUSEHOLD TREASURE as well as a DAILY HELP in Business Houses, Public and Private Institutions, Schools and Colleges. He should be branded as a coward from one end of the country to the other.
FROM the interest shown locally in the Fort Wayne man who had his stomach removed the other day, it may be inferred that several are wondering if they can't get along without theirs until after Thanksgiving.
