Frick by Judge Kop, lk lit connection with the extension of Dickey place into a through road between Indiana Harbor and Hammnd. was allowed on suspension of the rules. An appropriation ordinance providing for not to exceed $1,(00 to satisfy a judgment in favor of the Interstate lreii and Steel company handed down yesterday in the Superior court at Hammond, in connection with the opening to its full width of 141st street through the Interstate' property was adopted on suspension of the rules. An appropriation ordinance for $5,000 to continue the work of the? city in providing breakwaters to preve-nt the encroachments of the bike on lake- front property, was passed on suspension of the rules. This was in response to a peditifin from property owners along Ablls avenue. Tho city has already done something in the way of protec.ing this property but the brenk waters are not f-'tifficient ami estimates made by Owen Reed and the Great Lalts Dredging and Dock company indicate that about $5,000 will be needed to finish the work. An appropriation ordinance for $1,000 in the way of an extra police fund, and $2,700 f;,r the fire department, was

passed on suspension of the rules. An appropriation ordinance for $300 for city stationary was pltHsed on suspension of the rules. A number of other matters were also attended to at last night's meeting. The light ordinance, ratifying the franchise given the Lake County Gas anel Eectric company by the board of public works, went to It sthidr reading, notwithstanding opposition by Alderman Joe French and Ketclk. French was on hand with another petition against it, although before he presented it the mayor announced that an investigation of the names 011 the former petition had been made revealing the fact that 104 of the signers were not taxpayers anel the remaining 69 worn! between them be obliged to pay $7.50 a year toward defgraying- the cost of

the lights. Ketcik wanted the petition laid over and statred a speech which so far drifted from the question of lights, to lhe allege dopposition of residents in the vicinity of the new garbage crematories, to the operation of the same. Being declared out of ordr, the alderman sat down, the mayor calling attention to the fact that Alderman Ketcik's personal share of the illumination had been figured out and found to five cents a year. "You are making a pretty big huP.abaloo over a nickel," declared his honor. As to the new petition presented last night, a casual survey of he names disclosed the signatures of persons who had petitioned in favor of the lighting system In Indiana Harbor, now arrayed" against it. Sehock opined that in view of the disclosures regarding the petitions, they should not be taken seriously, and he moved that the ordinance be passed to third reading, which was done Ketcik voting no.
