The next United States congress will be overwhelmingly democratic aa to the lower body and probably democratic by a safe margin in the senate. Judge E. D. Crumpaeker, the lone republican on the Indi.ma delegation, seems to be beaten, and John 15. Peterson of Crown I'oint elected. Indiana will have a solid democratic delegation. LRtest reports indicate that tho the house will have a membership consisting of 2S1 democrats, 144 republicans and ten of other parties, perhaps .11 progressives. The Illuminating features of the congressional returns : re the defeat of Joseph G. Cannon, former speaker of the house, in the eighteenth Illinois district, and the retirement of Victor E. Uerger, the only socialist ever sent to the national legislature, in the fifth Wisoop sin. (Continued on page S.)

VOTE IN

CENTER TOWNSHIP

(Fpecial to Tin: Times). Crown I'oint, Ind.. Nov. fi. The following vote was cast in the five precincts of Lake county at yesterdays election between the three parti's, Republican, Democratic and Hull Moose parties. The Hull Moose failed to show their reputed strength and coupled with the lack of Interest by the Republican1, small pain by the Democrats, and tho split in the party the township will be Republican by a very small majority. It is estimated that the vote cast was at least 2f shy of the strength of the township ballot, following is the vote: First precinct For Hepre.Heutatlve In Congress.

(BtlXKTIV) (rowii Point, Ind., ot. 8. The full offirlal rrtornn for Lake county will be frivrn out loraorron. From the best (Inures obtainable the democrats tUI elect Carter, Mmoa and Dr. Tonne, but none others.

With the exception of Barney Carter, democratic candidate for state representative, and the possible exception of Edward Simon, candidate for auditor, and Dr. A. A. Young, candidate for coroner, the republicans of Lake county have elected their county ticket, though some of the majorities are going to be mighty small. ERENNAN IS YET CONFIDENT OF VICTORY. Brennan at Crown Point this morning said that he had a majority of 700 exclusive of Hammond, where Simon ran very strong and it may require the official vote to decide who will be Lake County's next auditor. Cully Swanson republican treasurer will be the highest man on the republican ticket. His unofficial vote for 93 out. of 04 precincts gives him a majority of 1492 votes. Two years ago his entire majority in Laka County was 1,092 votes.
