Merder was instantly killed and Engineer Henry Hinkle probably fatally hurt early today in a collision on the Letroit-Chlcago division of the Wabash near Topeka, Ind. The victims reside at Montpelier, Ohio. The trains were a westbound passenger and a-n eastbound freight. Both engines

NEED 3,000 CARS FOR POTATOES Northwestern States Fear Damage From Freezing. P.ailroads began responding yesterday to the interstate commerce commission's demand that something be done to avert a serious threatened car shortage. Northwestern lines reported difficulty in getting refrigerator cars to handle the potato crop and declared that their cars were returned to them very slowly. The shortage of cars on the different

and South Dakota may result seriously to the bumper potato crop, which must be removed before freezing weather sets in, accordlg to members of the state railroad agid warehouse commission, who hold a conference in Washington yesterday with representative of the different roads. "There are 3,000 cars of potatoes ready for the market," said Charles ElmQuist, member of the board.
INDIANA H ARB OIL The Commercial elnb of Indiana Harbor and East Chicago will receive the election returns over a special wire this evening. The club will keep open house and a light luncheon will be served. The next regular meeting of the Commercial club of Indiana Harbor and East Chicago will take plaoe tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock. A full attendance is requested. The Illinois Glee club will furnish the first entertainment of a series planned for the winter by the Christian church. It will be held at the Christian church Thursday evening. The Glee club comes highly recommended, the entertainment to be given by the organization, being a feature of last year's course by the Whiting high school, of which it was one of the most popular numbers The moving pictures of Indiana Harbor, taken by Columbus Ilehan of Chicago, will be shown tomorrow night at the Gem theatre.
