Men's association, of Gary, returned toj tiay from Milwaukee after scoring a
complete victory over the State of Wisconsin on a charge of wife desertion. Two weeks apo Governor Marshall honored requisition papers in this casn and Burmaster was taken into custody by a Milwaukee detective. In the trial it develerode that the defendant had bn wror.pfuily takn out of this state on each affidavit sworn to over a year apo and made to operate under a statute which was not effective until last June. This fact, coupled with ample proof that his wife deserted him, led the court to find in favor of Burmaster. For once the overworked debertlon law of Wisconsin was tir.able to serve a woman who had no right to its benefits.

in the lominp election. He says that it would be a liberal estimate to concede Belman one-half of the strenpth he claims. This would pive the bull mooseis 2.500 votes in Oie county. The republican majority the last peneral election was 4.000 hich would still give tlie republicans a worklup majority of 500 in the county assuminp that the en I ire deflection from the republicans went to the bull moosers and that there was ne bull moose converts made in the democratic party. dudpe Pecker says that there were a large number of democrats who voted for Taft last time who will vote for Wilson this year. He said that this would offset any inroads that the bull moosers made on the democratic party.
There is one consoling fact from the republican point of view. When there were oniy two parties in the field every vote that the republicans lost went to the democrats and so counted two apainst the republicans.
Nine out of every ten bull moosers were republicans so that while the republicans lose by this deflection it is not a pain by the democrats. Lookinp at the matter from an unprejudiced point of view there will have to be a tremendous loss from the republican party to -wipe ovit its majority of 4.000. The democratic county ticket is so weak in the personel of most of its candidates that it will not gain either republican or bull moose strenpth. The bull moose movement is already on the wane and four weeks of campaifcrninsr with the best speakers in the country at the command of the republicans will change the sentiment con-

en milk in Whiting was partly
cleared up by the arrest of Martin O'Donneil yesterday morning. For several inorninps housewives have been inissiii.it milk from their door steps; when they arose- to prepare break la-!. Centra! avenue seemed to be tlie haven of the thieves, the opinion at first beitip that the ml.k man was nephctinp to deliver the milk. One neighbor discussed tlie situation with another, until it was linaily tiet uled that a mi'.k th.ef must bo operating in their midst, and the matter was consequently Tf ported to the police. Yesterday moininp Officers O'Connell and Nizioikiewn . went out about daylight and had not loitered around long before they espi.-d the lipure of a man going into one yard after another. They arrested him. and found that he had three bottles of milk on l is person, two pints and a quart. The arrest was made as O'l'onnell was coming out of 3!4 Central avenue with a bottle of the lacteal fluid. O'PonneH confessed to being one of a party of hoboes who were camping on the lake front. He was arraigned before: Mayor
W. D. Woolcot, a detective from New Castle. Pennsylvania, is in Indiana Harbor this morning looking for a man who is wanted on a serious charge but whose name the police are withholding lest its revelation interfere with the ends of Justice. The Pennsylvania detective is armed with extradition papers from Governor Marshall, and will have no trouble taking back his prisoner, once he is captured. The. man Is known to have been in Indiana Harbor within the past fewdays and is expected that he will be arrested either here or In Gary some time today. The local police have a ine on him an dare helping the astern detective in effecting the arrest.
