Drive Marquard from Slab in Third Round of Final Contest.
New York, Sept. IS. If the NewYork club was all the Cubs had to beat to win the pennant it would be all over now and Chance's men would be leading by four games. They took a parting shot at the coming champions today on the Polo grounds, battering them down to a score of 5 to 3 and drove the great Rube Marquard off the slab again. Tt was a rioious sort of a game in which the umpires were abused by the New York players and threatened by the mob of angered fans, but out of all of this rioting little Johnny Ever.wa sthe only one to suffer. John was ptit out of the gaiiii- ror raising one holler and all the other tormentors were allowed to torment at random. John deserved to be put out all right but it should have been along with MoGraw, Herzog, Wilson. Crandall and possibly another one or two of the New Yorkers.

Milwaukee. Wis., Sept. IS. If the condition of an automobile race course is of any concern to drivers wishing
to break records, marks are not likely
to be shattered in Milwaukee during the speed carnival which opens on
Friday and ends on next Monday.
Trials made by four drivers yesterday Indicated that the course Is in a lamentable condition. The promoters, however, are confident that the opening day's rating will find the road in good shape. Their assertions are
backed by the officials of the American Automobile association, but are discredited by drivers. Caleb Bragg. Ralph De Palma and Ralph Mulford christened the track yesterday morning. Bragg drove his Fiat around the course in 8:55.6.1. De I'alma made two faster laps. On his first attempt he made the S.2 miles in 7:3'..58. The second lap was reeled off in 7:15.74. Mulford was more weary than the Italian. He did a lap in 8:07.70. David Bruce-Brown, Fiat; Hughie Huges,
