SHUCKS
From the Diary of Si. Lence
They're playin' "Th" Sin o' Society" t' a down-state theater this week. Y' don't hev t' go down state C see it. howsumever; they're a-playin" It in reality C Squdgevtlle every day. Gener'lly speakin' a woman . Th' above ain't finished, but It's Jest th' same's ef it wuz. Jake Schei.lt, one of Crown Point's respected citizens, died at his home on Jackson street yesterday following
several weeks' illness. Mr. Scheldt was a retired farmer, moving to this city about three years ago when he purchased the Purge home on Jack
son street. The funeral arrangements
have not been announced as yet. Willie, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kussmaul, met with a narrow escape from serious injury yesterday and but for
his presence of mind would have been run over by the Rreyfogle touring car. He was in the middle of- the street near the Catholic church when the Rreyfotrle automobile struck him. He grabbed the top of the radiator, however, and succeeded 1n hanging on Until the machine could be stopped, thus preventing the heavy load from passing over his body. Those who
witnessed the accident say that It was almost a miracle the young lad was not killed. Happening as it did, the boy was not Injured beyond a few scratches. A couple of Erie detectives boarded the early morning train here yesterday and apprehended four holdup men badly wanted in Huntington, where they were taken to face the charges against them. A Panhandle conductor was arrested yesterday morning for holding the Grant street crossing over the allotted time. He was not prosecuted, however, on promise to obey the law in such cases when the occasion arises. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Dyer of Hammond were Crown Toint visitors yesterday. The Weinman carrier pigeons were taken to WInamac yesterday to give an exhibition flight from that city to their cotes here. The birds made the trip in a remarkably short time considering the distance to be flown.
The Croweil gang of mechanics are starting on the constructon of the concrete bridge and buttments over the Bezor ditch on Main street. Miss Clara Oser of Gary visited with relatives here yesterday. Will -Hanloit of Hammond visited in Crown Point yesterday. The threatening weather kept a large crowd of baseball fans from the Hammond-Crown Point baseball game yesterday, and there was only a corporal's guard of the "faithful" present.
