HAMMOND SCENARIST ENJOYS A DIVERTING EXPERIENCE

Mrs. Myrtle Champaign Wrifcht and Mrs. Fred Champaign, Jr., visited the Essanay Film Co. In Chicago yesterday, and were conducted through the factory and studio and shown how moving; pictures are made. Mrs. WriKht says it )S a most interestlnK siRht, especially the, producing? and directing of the pictures. They put on a stable and a bed room scene while she was there, and while one naturally suppose these would he taken in a house or in a real stable, both were taKen in the studio with especially prepared

scenery and properties. And tn contrast to the legitimate, the actors do not study the whole script as a rule, except, when they so desire, but are told by the director what to do, scene by scene. The costumes are mostly of satin, velvet, chiffon or brocade, as these materials take the best ami look like the originals in the picture. The colors are always selected with a view as to how they will take with the camera, and actresses and actors, too, for that matter, are most careful to have their costumes surest the character and position of the person whom they are to portray in the story.

is 25 years of age and the oldest per- (?ram. The next place of meeting will son in the company. All of the chorus be announced later, beauties are on the sunny side of

twenty and have been selected with I much care as to their sinpingr and dancinar ability as well as their claims to beauty. , i

Those of the leading ladies are worn only two or three times and then passed on to the lesser members of the company, or sold to a fancy costumer.

Mofct of the scenery is made and painted right in the factory and there is an immense room full of beautiful furniture for society films. Of course, the out-of-door scenes are taken outside. There is a lare park surrounding the factory, where, one may find fountains and statuary and beautiful flower beds, etc.. for society pictures, or windmills, wells and oil wells for rural scenes. The western pictures are all produced

in California. Mrs. Wright was also shown how films are developed, washed, dried, and pieced into a full reel which measures a thousand feet. Each scene is taktn separately and afterwards joined into a whole. She brought home several relics of her visit, which was doubly Interesting to her as a scenario writer. She will have the rare privilege, some time In the near future, of seeinsr some of her own photo-plays produced and anticipates a most exciting and pleasant experience. Several of Mrs. Wright's plays will be shown here In the near future.
