council passed the tax levy ordinance for 1U. thereby lowering the tax ten cents n the hundred from what It was last year. A proposition from the Crown Point Electric company ' regarding all night service was presented, but as the missive was not very explicit with regard to the rates, etc. the matter was turned over to the light committee for further consideration. Other routine matters were considered and the board adjourned at an

Miss Harriett Timm of Crown Point has resumed her studies as a senior in the Whiting high school. Mrs. George C. Hay and two daughters are visiting relatives in different parts of Illinois. The Whiting schools opened for the fall term yesterday, but In order to arrange the course of study the majority
of the pupils had only half day sessions. Work on the Harr building has been held up owing to the flooding of the lot by the heavy storm, which had been excavated and was about ready for the laying of the foundation. .

There will be an Important meeting of the Ladles' Aid society of the M. R. church Thursday afternoon in the church parlors. The ladies are asked to meet at 1:30 to finish some work. CLARK STATION. The American Bridge Co. baseball team of Ambrldge, Pa., defeated the bridge company team here Saturday by the score of 2 to 0. The game was exciting throughout. Lamllne and Conroy were the battery for the home team. Not only unsatisfied with this victory alone they deefated the Las si g plant from Chicago by the score of 3 to 2 and the Chicago Bridge works by the score of 3 to 1 on Sunday.
