Speculation is being indulged in as to the significance of the activity now
being displayed by the Pennsylvania Railroad company In grading an old right of way owned by them since the days of General Torrence, which cuts
through the Buckeye" Steel' Castings Company tract. While f thre has been no definite Information to that effect.
the general Impression seems to be that the operations of the railroad
company may signify that the Buck ele people are son to start building.
The building of a railroad -on this particular right of way was'one of the conditions under which the . Buckeye people purchased their tract and for this reason the Operations of 'the railroad company seem especially to lridlcate some intention on fhe part of the big stel company, to build. This summer the Pennsylvania engineers have been busy making surveys of their unused rights of way in this
region. They have been checking up and staking out, ostensibly for the purpose of finding encroachments where they exist, on their properties. The right of way now being graded extends from their present line which parallels the B. & O. Chicago terminal, on McCook avenue, extended, through the Buckeye property and on across 141st street where it angles In a northeasterly direction coming out between the American Steel foundry and Michigan avenue, and paralleling the Indiana Harbor Belt to the. main road. It
Is another connection between the loop and the main line. The grading Is now
