LIFE MAN SEEKS PARDON. The case of James Caves of Laporte, one of the oldest life men in the Michigan City state prison, will be presented to the state board of pardons at the meeting In September. Caves haa been a convict twenty-one years, having been found guilty of the murder of Conrad Kelly at Kellersvllle, Ind. His plea at the trial was self-defense. SAYS COIRTS Mj;ST DECIDE. General Counsel James M. Barrett of the. Fort Wayne & Northern Indiana Traction company said today regarding the revocation of the company's street car and lighting franchise in Lafayette by the city council of that city: "The council plainly went outside of Its Jurisdiction. Municipalities may not revoke franchises at will. That power Is vested In tie state, not the city, and the courts will knock out the Lafayette revocation Just as they did a similar action In Peru several years ago." In the meantime the company is operating at Lafayette as usual. KILLED WHILE IN FIELD. James Myers, 56 years old, was killed by a stroke of lightning while at work near Nablesville with a thrashing machine on the farm of George Todd. He was In the field pitching oats with a fork. The lightning struck the fork and entered his body. The widow and four children survive.

Herman Thelsaen of Indiana boulevard attended the Columbus lodge, K. of P., In East Side last evening. A great many complaints are being made lately to Er. T. W. Kohr, who Is a member of the board of health, about the unsanitary condition of a number of back yards In Robertsdale, and unless Immediate steps are taken to clean them up the health department will take the matter In their hands and see that it Is tended too. Mrs. Jordensen of Chicago spent the fore part of the week here visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Horlbeck of Indiana boulevard. Mrs. C. W. Johnson of Indiana boulevard Is on the sick list.
