other day that If they were closed up that they would get the mayor. They now think that they grot him. The arrest of the mayor Is one of the sensations of the day. It Indicates that

will waive a preliminary hearing and
fight the case in the upper courts.
The. Young Buffalo and Colonel Cumraings' Willi West and Far East shows arrived in Hammond this morning from Frankfort, Ind.. and ' immediately pitched tents for an afternoon and evening performance today. Owing to the delay in the arrival of the trains, the parade did not begin until 12:30 this afternoon. Judging from the parade, the' show should be a good one. Although the Hagenbeck-Wallace shows were here
only a few weeks ago. the show
Hammond today Is of a different type.
in which rough riding, both of the j west and far east, are the principal features. Many people prefer an exhibition of this nature to the. regular . circus, as everything in It is intense life and activity. , HAVE MAJVV GOOD FEATURES. Typical Indians, cowboys, vacqueros and scouts, and rangers will be seen In scenes of American frontier days, with the emigrant train and the pony express. The oriental section of the show has Arabians, Tartars and representatives of other eastern countries. Among the headliners are Young Buffalo, who is styled King of the West. Colonel Cummlngs. Chevalier or the Saddle, Annie Oakley, peerless . wing and rifle shot of the world, and Billy and Marion Waite. Australian bull whip experts. i A twenty ox team. Sahara camels and elephants are other features In connection with the shows. "' The show will be given on the north side ball ground, from where the pa- - rade started this noon. The parade went south on Ilohman street, east on Etate street, south on Oakley avenue, west on Sibley, and north again on ' Hohman street.
October-like weather which has prevailed since the first part of July" caused the management of Lakewoods park to close its doors for the 1912 season.
This action followed an all-day meeting of the board of directors held at the park yesterday. One reason
that contributed toward the hasten
ing of the decision to close was heavy
damages done to the electrical ap
paratus during the first part of the
week.
In i Last year the park did not close un
til way mis m pepieracer. However,
amusement park men throughout the country are complaining about the
non-profitable weather.
According to Manager Seltzer of the
park it will be reopened next season on
a much larger scale. Extension of the
air line to adjoining Northern Indiana
points, it is believed, will result in patronage from these places next year, During the fall and winter months Mr
beltier expects to conduct a series of
