While working yesterday morning on the bridge that is under construction
at Chicago avenue. East Chicago, over
the canal, a number of workmen no
ticed a dark object floating on the surface of the water about 200 fet south
of the bridge. As the object looked
like a human body they watched It as the current, which was set toward
the north, slowly drifted it nearer to the bridge. Iti was not long before the men were able to make out that it was the body of a man. The police were notified and Freeman Fife, the undertaker, was sent for and before they arrived, Fred Lannan, Steve Orman And J. Humes had managed to get the body aboard a raft whence It was later transferred to an ambulance and conveyed to the Fife morgue. The body seemed to be that of a man aged about forty-five and the clothes indicated that he might have been a mechanic. There was nothing in the pocnets to identify the remains, -a carpenter's pencil being the only shadow of a clue his effects presented. The body was considerably decomposed and had evidently been In the water two or three weeks. It has been suggested that the articles found by beys while fishing off the One Hundred and Fifty-first strett bridge about three weeks ago and
