city Imposes a J50 license upon each auto bus, but the owners -are confident of easily making that amount during the first two days, on" account of the number of passengers and small amount of time used in making the trip, compared to the ordinary bus. It is said additional petitions will be filed today by Main street property owners to request the council to pave that thoroughfare with brick. It is

Next week will be "home coming"

! week in Crown Point, hundreds mak-

i ing their annual pilgrimage to visit relatives and friends here during the county fair. This year will be no ex- '. ception to the general rule, many of I the residents already entertaining rel- .

atlves who have arrived to Btay over the fair. I The interurban line is proving to be a-.popular method of getting Into Chicago and Hammond, and the steam1 roads are suffering accordingly. With the best of service over the South Shore line to Pullman and then over the Illinois Central into Chicago, Crown Pointers have a first class way of getting into the city at any time during the day, and the service, as before stated, is becoming exceedingly, popular. Rivalry between the courthouse' baseball taam, yclept "The Never-:

' weats," and the business men's team has become so acute that an exceed- : , Ingly large sum of money has begun to talk in the deal, and it is more than probable that another game will be

'played with a purse of $500 as a 'bait to the winning team. The business men's team is not satisfied wlh the results of the last two games played

and say their team ought to win hands down. The $500 purse, of which part will go to the Northern Indiana league team, has accordingly been . posted to show their confidence in their, ability to defeat the "Never Works." The doctors report quite a little sickness prevalent in Crown Point at present, being in the nature of bowel trouble and summer complaint. The existing weath'er is given as the cause of the sickness in that direction. The east side of the public square assumed its old-time appearance yesterday when the debris made by the

traction line construction, which has been an eyesore for weeks, was cleaned up. The merchants are rejoicing accordingly, those on that side of the square claiming the Impediment has caused them the loss of many dollars in trade, which Is probably true.
