CALLS F0RDEAD BABE Chief of Police Leo McCormack and Officer John Lasaar of Indiana Harbor accompanied Illiana Reidan to Crown Foint In an automobile, and the woman Is now being held In the county jail awaiting her hearing In the

i superior court. I She seems half-crazed with grief and remorse and calls constantly, "my

poor dear baby." When she arrived It was decided not to put her In a cell, but Instead she was put In a room with a number of other women prisoners. At first these were inclined to hold themselves aloof from the prisoner when they heard of the nature of her crime, but they relented In the face of her great Borrow and sought by one means and another to comfort the grief-stricken mother. However, comfort is not for her. She weeps constantly and seems unable to obtain any rest or ease of mind. She has scarcely slept at all since her arrest and the few times she. has dropped oft In a troubled dose, she has awakened with a start and cried again and again for her child. Before they left she extracted a promise from Officer Laiaar and his wife to send her a photograph of the little one.

The woman'a nerves setm sadly shaken and It Is feared eh will lose her reason.

ROBBED BY GARY MEN

George Etuper, who says his home Is

in Cleveland, was held up and robbed In broad daylight yesterday at Ninety-

nrth street and South Chicago avenue. He says he was robbed of 1300, but his

two companions, now under arrest at South Chicago, admit of robbing him only of $7, which was all he had. Stu-

per still adheres to his original story that the two men he picked up In Gary lured hlm to South Chicago and

In broad daylight relieved him of 300

In good as gold cold cash.

Stuper told his story to the officials

it the local station yesterday and

without delay several men were 'put to

work on the case to look for the two

men, whom he accused of first having gained his confidence and then held him up. He gave the police such good

descriptions that Detectives Sklba and

Loftus succeeded In placing under arrest George Justrlch and Joe Serenlk,

both of whom he Identified, while they

were protesting their Innocence. Aft erwards both broke down and con

feshsed to robbing Stuper, but not of

300, as he only had $7 In his pockets.

Stuper, however. Insists that It was

ISOO instead of 7 that he lost, and

that the two prisoners are bluffing

about the amount in order to save

themselves from a more severe penalty, which a 300 robbery would merit.
