gardens flowers and greenery. There was music during the evening. Miss Mae Hanson presided at the piano. She played the piano accompaniments for Mrs. William Loe, Mrs. Robert Stewart

On Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vivian, 411 Ash street a recital given by the members of the Pennsylvania Quintette was greatly enjoyed by those present. , The five
members of the company who are sisters are versatile musicians and come
from a family talented in this line,
The father is a violinist and a brother is a concert cornet player of note. Last evening both vocal and instrumental
numbers were given by the Quintette. The vocal number in which were given the animal calls of farm life was unique and deserves especial mention, as also the flute solo by Miss Bertha George, , The Misses George are the house guests of Mrs. Vivian and will leave on Saturday for Michigan. Their only public appearance tn Hammond will be tonight at a concert at the Pine street Presbyterian church. A largo attendance Is expected. , GLEANER CLASS MEETS. The Gleaner class of the First Baptist Sunday school were charmingly entertained last evening by Miss Carrie Robinson at her home at 518 Hoffman street. Games and music were the features of the evening after which a dainty luncheon was served by the

cial in the parlors of the First Christian church in Calumet avenue last evening. In the contest the honors
were won by Nolan Montgomery. A
short musical and literary program
had been prepared for the entertain ment of the guests. Following the pro
gram refreshments were served. No admission was charged but a small sum
was asked for refreshments. The affair was a decided success sociality but the
boys were very much disappointed in
the attendance. The members of the other classes and their friends did not
respond as the boys had expected. Ar

The members of the St Paul's Lutheran League met for a short' business session last evening In the school hall at the corner f Oakley " avenue and Sibley street. There were many members present. eon was served. The meeting was-not as well attended as usual on account of the absence of several of the members who are spending the sumer out of the city. The members are planning
to have another party In two weeks on Thursday, August 29th but the hostess

Mrs. Kate Geib was hostess to the members of the W. R. C. Embroidery Club at an afternoon tea yesterday at her home In Webster avenue. It was the regular bi-monthly meeting and a

E. Jackson gave a party yesterday afternoon honoring the members of the Sunshine Club. It was their afternoon
for meeting and the usual social program of the club was folowed. Pedro was played at three tables. After several games the honors were awarded to
Mrs. H. L. Dorten, Mrs. C. E. Jackson and Miss Laura Baughman. The consolation prize was awarded to Mrs.
Henrietta Huber. At the conclusion of
the games a dainty two course luncheon was served. The covers were laid at small tables In the parlors. In two
weeks on Thursday afternoon, August
29th Mrs. Charles Luthman will enter
tain the members at her home" In Sibley street. Cards will again be the featurs of entertainment.
A PICNIC SUPPER. The members of the A. D. Q. Club in
vited a number of their friends to be
guests at a picnic supper at Jackson Park In Chicago last evening. Au elaborate supper was served after which games were played and a delightful time was spent in true picnic fashion. The picnic took the place of the regular club party. Those who attended were the Misses Reese, Moyer,
Helen Wagenblast,; Ethel Duval, Eva Ortt, Ethel Hathaway, Edith Shearer, Alice Bump, Ethel Hoffman, Edna Swltzer and Ethel Shearer. CARD OF THANKS.
