If this plan is put through it will mean additional passenger train service between Joliet and Aurora as well
as rreight service. The proposea changes will give the road direct connection with the Rock Island, Chicago & Alton and Sante Fe here and probably with the Big Four at Coster. Co-incident with the beginning of
work on this line, the C, M. & G. will probably begin work on the extension
of its yards here. "Whether the road :wlll enlarge upon the plan for extending the yards which "..-ere formulated for this year and will put up shops or other i buildings here is not known. , This city being a central point on the

So in the future when Dan Moran trumpets his friends will know that Dan is riding the elephant of the G. O. P., and when he lets loose a long, plaintive "moo" his friends will know that he is asserting his bull moose proclivities only in national politics. Jn other words, Dan Moran is the greatest political bareback rider who moves around the sawdust covered arena of politics, with one foot on the back of an elephant and the other on
the back of a bull moose.
According to a report received here today prints the Joliet Herald, the Chicago, Milwaukee & Gary railroad' will begin work on a single track line from Joliet to Aurora either this fall or next spring. If the present plans go through about fl.25o,000 will be expended. The plan is said to be to lay the route through Rockdale, cross the river there and strike across country direct to Aurora. It has not yet been definitely decided just what rout will be taken out of Rockdale, eight or ten different surveys having been made during the past three years. liook Oer Conditions. When the special train of Paris and New . Tork bankers' representaties made an Inspection of the C, M. At the present time the C, M. & G. Is divided into two divisions, one begining at Rockford and ending at Auora, and the other beginning at Momenee and ending at Joliet. The road

ROBBERY AT THE HUB. (Special to The Times.) Crown Point, Ind., Aug. 12. Sneak thieves or thief made a rather rich haul at the Swartx drug store yesterday morning, netting him or them
something like $82 which they took out of a cash box. The entrance was made from the alley, the thief climbing the fire escape and entering the store through a transom. The money was of small denomination. No trace of the burglar could be gotten ester-
day, but it is thought that it Is the ,
work of a. local cracksman, suspicion being directed that way. The authorities are working on the case and expect early results.

County Ticket.
Four or five months ago Attorney Dan Moran of Hammond accepted the
nomination for the office of Judge of the superior court of Lake county at the hands cf the republican party. He was not a, progressive then. Now he is a full-fledged bull moose with as fine a pair of antlers and as loud a bellow as any bull moose ever had. When he first came to Lake county he rode the democratic donkey. He was asked, this morning, to explain why he had suddenly embraced the bull moose movement and forgotten the favors that he had received at the hands of the republicans. "I want to say that I am a progressive," said Moran. "so far as the presidency of the United States goes. I am for Roosevelt, but I am against the proposition on the part of the progressives to put a county ticket In the field." When asked if he would assert his right as a member of the new bull moose party to protest against the plan to put a third county ticket in the field, he said he woule. Further than that, he said that if the progressives put a third ticket In

only their money, but detract from their business chances as well. Unless they are "overruled in the council, the northsiders are said to be willing to compromise by Installing the lighting system as originally proposed, and extending It on llohman street from Michigan avanue north to Gostlln street, or Installing it at least
between Hoffman and Gostlln streets. This same, argue would Justify, paying! for the "Juice" out of the general fund. , Of course, if the north side business men are going to insist on their equity at once, there Is no reason why the business men in the neighborhood of State street and Calumet aveneue should not ask for the extension of the system at once in their territory, and the business men in the Standard district may then demand the same lights, in fact every business center in the city will demand the lights at once. MIST MAKE A START SOMEWHERE. Adam R. Ebert, president of the
board of public works, discussing these probable demands at the recent mass meetings said. "Progressive cities no longer look upon an ornamental lighting system as a luxury. They are deemed a necessity, and the only course to take to Introduce them. Is tp do like we did years ago when we first Installed the are lights which were then considered modern.
We did what every city In the coun-J
ty is doing, we taxed the whole city and put the lights where they were most needed and some sections paid taxes for years, but remained In darkness nevertheless. But as the revenue increased we Installed more lights, and that Is the only feasible course to take with the modern street lighting system. Let us make a start and extend the system as our revenue Increases, and you will find that when the property owners have to install the posts at about $80 a post, the demand will not be much excess of the revenue."
pavement for residential streets Is the standard width in Hammond, the board said, and while it could be deviated from, the wide pavements are throwing extra burden on most of the property owners. Bids for the Harrison street sidewalk were opened and the contract awarded to Newell Brothers. Attorney L. T. Should these three Join the original five and stand pat, the passage of the ordinance is assured, and Hammond would be placed among the progressive cities on the lighting question. SiOIlTH SIDE OPPOSED. The opposition to the project is probably more marked on the north side than anywhere else In the city.
