OX THE TRAIX1XG OF CHILDRE.V. Tbe average parents, especially V4ltb the flrat child, do not seem to realize that from tbe very beginning of bin life a child forms hablt aad that these hablta need attentlon. The baby la ao rate and attractive that what he o Menu less aerioaa than It reelly ta.
Parents forset that Jnat aa soon as a child ran talk aad walk he begins to trow either obedient or ' disobedient,' honorable or dlshon-Arable-nneonsclous or self -tonscions, attentive or Inattentive
And It la Just at this time that mother's keenest attention should be paid to her child. But It la more apt to be the case that It la not; she often takes no notice of tendencies until they ttrow to be habits of such size that she cannot overlook them. Then she begins her training, not realising that too often she has begun too late. A child's training Is tn too many cases a matter of afterthought Instead of forethought. If parents would only stop talktrajc so nick and learn lesson of 4
constancy, say from the force of d gravity and lire, aa obedient child would not be ao hard to find. d d How soon a child leara to guard d d against falling. Why Because d d he soon learns that a fall mraaa a d d painful sump. By tbe same token d d he can leara obedience to authord ity because disobedience means d d banishment, deprivation of some d pleasure. d Mothers are too often busy or d d careless or too lonsr-suarertuar to d d do more than talk and the child d d knows It. A mother will agala d and aa-aln tell a child to do this or d d that without even noticing wbeth- d er her order are obeyed. The child soon sees thlsy does not obey d d and the orders are not enforced. d
