The afternoon was devoted to cards and whist was played progressively at two tables. Hlgtt score was made by Mrs. J. T. Flavin. Prises were also won by Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Wilson. Dainty refreshments were served at the conclusion of the card games. Eight covers were laid. In two weeks on Wednesday afternoon. August 21st the members will meet with Mrs. Frank Waller at her home in Truman avenue. Mrs. Waller will entertain with cards. HOLD BI-MOXTHLY MEETING. Mrs. C. W. Llnsemann of Forsylhe avenue. West Hammond was at home to the Ladies' Aid Society of St. Paul's Lutheran church yesterday afternoon It was the regujar bi-monthly meeting to which all the ladies of the church were Invited. There was a larsre attenadnce at the meeting. The mem oers met socially. At nve o clock a supper was served. A silver collection was taken as is customary at the meetings and a nice amount was realized which will be used for the benefit of the church. The arrangements for the next meeting were not completed but the hostess will be named later. The meeting will be held In two weeks on Wednesday afternoon, August 21st. PICNIC AT LAKE FRONT. The members of the Deborah Society of the First Christian church spent a very enjoyable time at a picnic at the Lake Front yesterday. It was their annual picnic. The attendance was not as large as In former years on account of the threatening weather but those who attended report - a most pleasant time. Dinner was served In the park and during the afternon various games were played and the usual picnic diversions . were enjoyed. This week's meeting was jpostponed. The members will meet "for an all day session next Wednesday and will have home bakerv for sale In the social rooms of the church in Calumet avenue. Committee No. 1 of which Mrs. Harry Hatfield Is chairman will have charge of, the meeting and they desire that there is a large attendance. The usual business and social program will be followed. A party was given last evening as surprise to Mr. and Mrs. William Groebe of Chicago who are visiting tt the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Prohl In Hammond. The party was given by ' the young people of St. Paul's Luth- 1 eran League and they invited the Hammond relatives of Mr. and Mrs. t Groebe to attend.. There were about twenty guests. Mrs. Groebe was form erly Miss Lilly Prohl of Hammond and a prominent member of the league. Her marriage to Mr. Groebe was an event of the early summer. A beautiful silver fern dish was given Mr. and Mrs. Groebe as a gift from the members. Games and music were enjoyed during the evening. Refreshments were served at ten o'clock. ax ICE cream social. The ladies of the Pine street Prebyterian church gave an ice cream social yesterday in the church parlors I which was very well patronized by mnr inemis. in me evening a snort. musical program was given for the entertainment of the guests. Ices and cake were served. A nice amount was realized which will be used for the benefit of the church. The meeting was unusually well attended. There were about twenty-five members of Hammond Hive No. 2 L. O. T. M. In attendance. The guards of Hammond Hive had been Invited to do the Initiatory work. Mrs. Richard Caldwell Is captain of the drill team. A feature., of the social hour was Whittier's "Maud Muller" given In pantomine by Hazel Findling, Mrs. Edna Ashbaucher, Mrs. Lou Aldrich, Mrs. Lulu Hageman, Mrs. Ida Tuley, Mrs. Charles Rundbum. Mrs. Charles Colgrove, Mrs. Ray Abbott, Mrs. Al Graves and Mrs. Kate Geib. Miss Dollie Geib sang a group of songs. Refreshments were served during the evening. Th meeting was exceptionally pleasant and everyone present reported having spent a very enjoyable few hours.
