They will be absent

in Itlmbaeh avenue. Jt was the regular bi-monthly meeting postponed from Tuesday to Friday afternoon for the convenience of the members. The puests played cards at two tables. After several games the honors were awarded to Mrs. A. F. Knotts, Mrs. J. T. Flavin and Mrs. Davis. Mrs. K. A. Mee was named as the next hostess and she wljl entertain the members in he parlors of the Hotel Carleton. The next meeting day will be announced later,

Free ice cream and lemonade wiij be served the children pf the Sunday school. A program of games and contests has been arranged for their entertainment and a very enjoyable day is anticipated. It is expected that the picnie will be well attended. W, C, T. V, MEETING. Mrs. H. K. Granger, 55 Hamlin street was at bome to the members of the W. C T. V. last evening- It was the regular monthly social meeting to which the members of the society and their friends were invited. There was a large attendance at the meeting. A

gram was given for the entertainment of the gusts after which dainty re
freshments were served. Next Friday evening. July 26th a Silver Medal Contest will be given at the First Presby
terian church in South Hohman street
under the auspices of the W. C. T. U.
A class of six grils of high school age
will take part on the program. Plans were definitely made for the contest last evening and it is desired that
many Hammond people attend.

The Boy Scouts had a short meet
ing last evening in the parlors of the
First Baptist church in Bast Sibley street. The attendance was not as large as. usual on account of the ab
sence of several of the members who
are at the Camp at Crystal Lake,
Mich. Letters had been received from the boys at the camp telling of their
good times. Plans were made for the next meeting to be held Friday, July 2tth. The usual business and social
program will be folowed.

Mr. MettKman, who is eighty-nine years old and hale and hearty comes to Hammond where he has many friends several times a year. She will visit Denver, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City and the Yellowstone National rark before her return. ; Miss Marguerite Knetts will entertain Miss Kalilla Trotter of Valparaiso at her home in MuenKh Court over Sunday. Mrs. Edward F- Bird and sons, Henry F. and Theodore who have been the guests of relative in Mt. Healthy end Norwood, O. and points in Indiana, for the past two month have returned to their home, Sit Hohman street.

A very enjoyable meeting of the members of the Protected Home Circle took place last evening in the Moose Hall in State street. There was a large attendance of the membership and several visitors from Chicago were present. The Kenwood degree team from. Chicago performed the initiatory work. A class of three candidates was initiated. Following the regular lodge session the guests were invited into the banquet room and served witlv a supper. The tables were beautifully decorated .with . greenery, white earnations and red rose buds. A number of the members remained after the banquet hour and enjoyed informal dancing. The meeting was one of the. most enjoyable f the summer. Announcement of the nejet regular meeting will be made later. Leave for Auto Trip. Attorney J. A. Gavit and his wife left for an automobile tour of Michigan yesterday. Russell Gavit en his motorcycle accompanied them. They expect to be gone for two weeks. They will motor to northern Michigan summer resorts.
