feature- of the afternoon. The- members planned for a picnic at the Lake
Front to take the place of the next regular meeting. The picnic will be
given the afternoon of August 1st.

The consolation pries was awarded to Mrs. H. L. Dorten. The games pro
gressed at two tables. At four-thirty
o'clock a daintily arranged two course
luncheon wa s served. Eight covers were laid. In two weeks on Thursday afternoon, August 1st the members will be entertained by Mrs. Henrietta

AN ENJOYABLE MEETING.
There was an enjoyable meeting of
Sewing Circle No. 2 of St. Margaret's
Hospital at the home of Mrs. H. Stev
enson in Sibley street yesterday after
noon. Mrs. Stevenson entertained with
cards and pedro was played at several
small tables. Mrs. Oscar Plageman
won the first honors and Mrs. Young
the second. The consolation prize was
awarded to Mrs. Joseph Kmmerling.
At the conclusion of the games a two course luncheon was served. The
members will meet again Thursday afternoon August 1st but the hostess will be named later. The arrangements were not definitely made for the next meeting on account of the absence of several of the members.

A PRETTY PARTY. A very pretty party was given by Mrs. H. W. Cleveland at her home in Ingraham avenue, West Hammond
yesterday honoring the members of the Acme Social Club. The members spent the afternoon very pleasantly at the card tables. Ten games of pedro were played. Mrs. M. O. Lavene, Mrs. H. tV. Cleveland and Mrs. J. 3. Nolan won the honors In cards. Following the games a prettily appointed luncheon was served. The covers were laid at small tables. Mrs. G. H. Clover was named as the next hostess and she will entertain the club members at her home in East State street Thursday afternoon, August 1st.

Calumet Missionary Society The Methodist churches in the six cities of the Calumet region have joined in organizing the Calumet Missionary and Church Extension society. A constitution and plan of work was adopted at a meeting held at East Chicago last evening. Rev. A. ' T.

The reception last night at the First Methodist church of Bast Chicago was a large and Interesting event. There were a number of guests from Indiana Harbor, Hammond and Whiting to inspect the new church and felicitate the members on their fine proper
ty. The attendance numbered - over 200 and all who had not visited the building since its completion were loud in their praises of the church, its furnishings and general finish. The reception, which was under the auspices of the Ladies' Social Union, was preceded by preaching services. Rev. T. J. Bassett of Valparaiso spoke, his subject being "Knights of the Twentieth Century." The sermon was
