"I am an officer come along with me." "Like the devil I will," was the answer as he "sloughed" the cop on the Jaw. Then he took to his heels with Farrell after him and his companions. The cry of "halt" was unanswered so Farrell got his artillery Into play. The speaker got away but Farrell soon had the other two. Yesterday they were haled before Chief Martin, giving their names as William Frey and Robert Ellenberger. No case was found against them so they were dismissed.

automobile loads went from the Harbor, so that the team was not without a goodly number of friends to lend their moral support. The feature of the game was the pitching of Marceaux, who only allowed the Laporte boys three scattering hits. The first Gary drowning fatality of :
the season occurred yesterday morn-I ing when John Tomieckl, fourteen ; years old, lost his life while playing; in a water hole near the new sewer ex-
cavatlona at. ifteenth avenue and Georgia "treet.
Young Tomieckl was with some
playmates, seven and eight years old. He could not swim and evidently
thought that the water hole was a shallow one. However, It was a water filled excavation some fourteen feet deep. The boys with him thought that he could swim and that he was doing some deep water . "stunts" so after waiting awhile for him to come up again they went home and told their parents about it. The police were notified and C8pt. Newman hastened to the scene. He dived into the water and recovered the body. Believing that there might be a chance to save the lad's life he worked over him for nearly and hour, being assisted by Dr. Greene. Young Tomieckl lived at Sixteenth avenue and Georgia street.

BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR SUn SCHOOL Sixty Pupils Put in an Appearance in East Chi-
! pgo Today.
Prospects for a summer school In
East Chicago, are very bright. About sixty students appeared this morning to be enrolled and work, will begin at once if sufficient interest can be arous
ed in Indiana Harbor to warrant a summer term there. The sixth and
seventh grade will be in charxe of
Prof. T. E. Williams and classes will be conducted in the McKinley building.
while the eighth grade scholars will
report at the Harrison building, the
work there to be in charge of Prof. H.
H. Clark and I- R. Thompson. The
ourse Is for eight weeks, from eight
to twelve o'clock on the regular school days. ... . . . ... -
Prof. C. P. Holway was on hand at
he Washington building this morning
to enroll all who might desire to take the course, but so few appeared that the prospect looks rather discouraging. However, Mr. Holway will be there
gain tomorrow morning from 8 to 9
and also on Wednesday. If a sufficient number appear to warrant proceeding with the work, and it Is desired, a
change may be made to the Lincoln
chool as the latter Is more centrally
located and perhaps might be more convenient for the majority who wish
o attend the classes.
Supt. E. N. Canine is very anxious to
see a large enrollment at the Harbor,
as he dislikes to conduct a school In one end of the town and not in the other. Notice was posted in all the
