COL. EHGLEHART TOSSES HAT III RING Will Be Candidate for Alderman to Succeed Castleman.

f Rensselaer, Ind., June 14. H. J. ! Wilson, of Chlcagro, who was here sev- . eral weeks ago with Eugene rurtelle investigating the latter's interurban : proposition for Chicago and Indiana i capitalists, arrived here apaln Wed- . nesday to look, up maters of the road, t Mr. Wilson is a civil engineer and has been connected . with the construction i. of several interurban and steam roads. t He and another party constructed the four miles of grade of the Purtelle road in Lake county, for which they1 , never received their pay. i The capitalists whom he represents ; 4 are willing- to undertake the building! ; of the road if Purtelle's debts are got '? out of the way and Mr. Wilson is now

I engaged in looking up the claims, of which Purtelle has furnished him a -,. list from memory and such data as he

' has at hand. They schedule $17,500 as' : far as reported. This includes bills

j for supplies, construction work, at- . torney's fees, borrowed money, overdrafts at banks, etc., and every town on the proposed line has Its quota of creditors. The largest claims, however, are in Chicago. The plan is to have the creditors agree to place their claims in escrow with a trust company, to be paid later. All the creditors ex- , cept two. in Rensselaer, who are now out of the city and cannot be seen, have agreed to this plan, and It is . thought they will be willing to do so. , jThe matter of claims-must be cleared up by July 15, the date set for beginning construction. if the matter goes through. The papers have already been signed by which Purtelle waives- control of the company, and from now on he s not to be considered in the affairs of the road at all, except in the final adjustment he will be paid In cash whatever may be due him. ' The prospects now look excellent for ;'the construction of the road and the next month will decide the matter one . way or the other. It is thought.

Colonel Timothy W. Englehart, the Gary real estate map and duke of the Kidge road, today announced that he is a candidate for Fifth ward alderman to succeed Battle Axe Castleman, deprived of his seat by reason of the Commercial club ouster suit. The announcement came like a thunderstorm In clear waters and great was the dismay in Castlemans camp.

and, according to those who know, the contest will be as forceful locally as ..ie Taft-T racket. "I have seven aldermen lined up," announced Englehart, as he ordered a box of fat campaign cigars this morning. "There is nothing to it-" Says Tim Tsea Steam Roller. "Englehart is Using steam roller methods was the response from Battle Axe Castleman's campaign managers, who think yet that may land Mawruss apokan back Into the council by reelection. "We will appeal to the pe-

pull to stop this grabbing up of votes." It is said that Knglehart's candidacy will have the backing of the south side real estate men, and as he is'identifled wth several, uptown business interests. FAMOUSENGINEERS VISIT THE REGION (Continued from Page one)
