TIMES' BUREAU AT THE STATIC CA PI A L. Indianapolis, Ind., June 12. In view of the rumpus at Chicago over the republican nomniation for president, the outcome of which still appears to ba very much in doubt, has caused poll- j ticians here to start to talk about Bry- , an as the most promising democratic ; probability for the nomination at the Baltimore convention. Yesterday some of them were even expressing a will ingness to bet that Bryan would be niiiiiiai.ou. inry picea moir preuicuuu on ., ktuui.u in n me utrauu.ii wise they will nominate their , an "heaviest hitter" at Baltimore. They say that Bryan's batting average as a vote getter is greater than any other democrat In the country, and that when a party is demoralized, as they say the republican party Is at this time, as a result of the chaotic condi tions at Chicago, it is up to the democrats to come to bat with their best man and take advantage of the fact that there Is an opening for him. In other words, these men expressed the belief that Bryan could get more votes than any one else that could be nominated at Baltimore. They said it would be the part of wisdom to nom inate the best man they had instead of any peewee candidate that might bob up. The Bryan talk is not receiving any encouragement, however, among the Marshall contingent In this state. Thai nirsnau people ao not oeueve uiai Bryan will be a candidate, or that if a candidate he can be nominated. One strong Marshall man, who, by the way, is a state official, said yesterday, that there was no sentiment among the Indiana democrats except for Marshall. "All of this talk about Kern for pres ident does not amount to anything," US ABOUT OUTCOME OF SUIT Gary & Southern Injunction Proceedings Up at Crown Point Today. (Sp-'al to The Times.) A. depot just north of the Erie to care ror tne passenger ana rreigni irainc on the interurban line would be part of a remedy to bring the two steam roads to time, and Is a plan put forward by some to give Crown Point people service un til the higher court, if the case Is appealed, settle the matter. FIRST CHERRIES SOLD Ifl MARKET TO-DAY The first cherries of the season reached the public market today and sold readily. An effort was also made to introduce the first water melons of the season. The melons had been ship ped In from the outside and peddlers attempted to dispose of the supply in the market- As the place Is now under the law strictly a producers' market the peddlers were driven out Tha cherries brought eight cents a quart 14 wa not lnown w?at w?u-be a8ked for the melons, as the pjeddlers were not given an opportunity to offer them for Bale MIKE IS REWARDED. She de Clares that he had not provided her with money to purchase provisions nor fuel to cook the same. This little omls slon on his part, however, seems to have had no weight with Mike, who fumed and iwore Just the same. This becoming monotonous he "proceeded to beat and kick his better half, pulling her hair out by the handfuls. It is alleged, and otherwise doing her violence. At length he threw her out of the house, after having pulled a gun on her in an effort to kill her. Officer John Sancya was on the scene coon after the trouble and found the door shut against him. He was warned by Meiscena not to come inside unless he wanted to get ehot. The officer concluded to take a chance on Melscena's aim and went inside notwithstanding 'the threat. Meiscena was arrested and booked on the charge of wife beating and assault with intent to kill, and was given 110 days at Crown Point in the city court.

he said. "It merely slves the antl
Marshall people means of blowing off. You will find a few people in Indiana j who are far Kern and a few In other ! states, but there is nothing formidable about them, AH we expect to do is to just let them go ahead and shoot oft about Kerfl, because we know it will not harm Marshall." Great preparations are being made 1 for the trip of the Marshall boomers I to Baltimore on their special trains. They say they have enough reservations now for one train out of this ! city, and they are trying to get enough for a Eecond train. Whether they will make it or not Is a question. The Map. shall-ror-President club, which is en-! glneerlng the trip, has made an assessment on the democrats of the thirteen districts of the state for $200 a district with which to pay the expenses of running the ppecial train to Baltimore and maintaining the Marshall headquarters In that city. This assessment is In addition to the regular fares that will be paid by all persons wj go on the train. It is said that some of the districts have not sent in their full amount of $200 yet, but the Twelfth district, which Is Governor Marshall's own district, has not only raised- this $200 but It has raised $500 in addition, making $700 in all that the district will supply as Its share of tf.e expenses of the fight. A full military band will be taken along on the train at a cost, of $1,600. This band will make music and sound the praises of the governor throughout the convention days. Then the money is also needed to pay for hotel rooms for headquarters and for little souvenirs which will be presented by the Marshall people to the delegates and visitors.. It is estimated that the band, hotel rooms, headquarters and everything else will cost in the neighborhood of 14 000. There is one thing about the Marshay boomers they appear to , be in earnest, what there are ' of them. Of course, it Is generally taken as a fact that Taggart is for Marshall because he knows If he is not Marshall and his followers might put him out of control In this state. So Taggart is boosting Marshall because he does not want to break up the harmony of the party in the state. One thing that is disappointing to the Marshall train- managers is that a number of the leaders are going to Baltimore several days ahead of the special train. They will prevent the train managers from getting their fares for the train, and it will also keep down the number that will go on the train.
