The, empty stands which greeted them did not tend to improve their humor. New York won the game by forfeiture and Chicago probably lost its franchise. There seems little likelihood of a game today. The disgruntled strikers declared that they would return to Chicago and the s&mi-pro ranks. It was rumored locally that Reading was ready to quit. This would mean four desertions from the original eight clubs. Cleveland and Chicago appear to be through in the west; Washington and Reading in the east. A meeting of the magnates will be held in Pittsburg tomorrow. It is understood that St. Louis financiers are willing to tak over the Cleveland franchise if all the clubs will post a forfeit. JOHNSON PICKS

NEW CAMP; BEGINS WORK FOR BIG GO

tat Las Vegas, N. M., May 28. The

silence of the country was too much for Jack Johnson, whose ears are used to

the noise and rattle of the city, and

after spending one night on the Forsyth ranch, which had been secured by

Promoter Jack Curley as his training quarters, the black champion today picked out a location near the center of the city, securing a lease for two

months on the property of Don Fran

cisco Bacay Sandoval.

Johnson will erect a large platform

in the yard, whene he will do his spar

ring and gymnasium work.

The champion took a long cross coun

try run and when he came in he asserted the high altitude did not affect him a bit. He declared he would defeat'

Flynn in ten rounds or. less. Real work began in the Flynn camp today with the arrival of Flynn's train

er. Tommy Ryan, from Los Angeles.

This is Ryan's first official connection with Flynn, whom he has only seen twice before, but after putting Jim

through some stunts he declared he was greatly pleased and said Flynn's

chances looked good. Floyd Fitzsimmons, a Benton Harbor fight promoter, passed through Chicago on his way to Las Vegas yesterday. Fitzsimmons has secured" Eddie McGoorty's consent to battle ten rounds before his club July 4 and is now after Howard Morrow to fill the other half of the bill. Morrow is helping his manager. Tommy Ryan, condition Flynn for the Johnson fight, but the Benton Harbor promoter thinks he can persuade Ryan to let his fighter meet McGoorty.

At 9 o'clock Saturday morning, June 1, the Gary Land Company will offer for sale, at its Gary office, residence lots in the second sub division. Fillmore is to be exclusively a bungalow street. It is thought that within a year it will develop into one of the Handsomest streets on the West Side. The street is now paved. Crowding will not be permitted. Each purchaser will be required to take at least forty-five feet frontage. Lots on this street will be sold on contract. Contracts will provide that bungalows must be completed within one year. Purchasers of lots on Fillmore street must submit plans for bungalow for approval at the time of making application. It is suggested that prospective purchasers of residence lots on Fillmore street have plans prepared at once, ready to submit for - approval on June 1st. The minimum cost of bungalows on this street between Fifth and Eighth avenues will be $2000; north of Eighth avenue and between Third and Fifth avenues, $1500. GARY X AMD COMPANY
