Meade, attorney, and files her complaint herein, together with an affidavit of a competent person, showing that the defendant, John Dunck, is not a resi

Trial. May 29.

Richard S. Pryble, 740 Michigan avenue, Chicago, arrested on State Line street. Speed, 35 miles an hour. Trial

avenue. South Chicago, arrested on

Sheffield avenue. speed 28 miles per

hour. Trial t June 24. Cecil Dunkle.y, 5940 Euclid avenue,

Chicago, arrested on Indianapolis

boulevard. Speed 28 miles per hour.

Trial May 29.

All the speeders that were arrested were brought to the police station

where they were booked and charged with violating the city speed ordinance.

An appearance bond of $25.00 was furn

ished In each Instance and In case they do not appear on the date of trial their bond will be forfeited". In an effort to put a stop to this speed erase large signs were placed by the Hammond police department on all leading thoroughfares into the city, warning the automobile drivers that the speed limit within the city Js eight miles an hour. But seemingly their eyes never met these signs of warning

as the drivers would throw1 in the gas and burn up the roads In defiance.

Yesterday Captain Hanlon thought

would be a glorious day to search for speeders, so in the vicinity of Robertsdale and Sheffield avenue he stationed himself. Some of the machines, would

burn up the road before approaching him and suspecting that he might be

an officer, they would slacken their

speed. Upon their arrest most of the

drivers dented riding over the speed limit or that they did not know they

were going so fast, but Captain Han

lon had his speedometer tested and tt

was found to be correct.

During the week another compalgn

will be carried out against speeders, but

It Is thought when it becomes known

among the automobile owners of Illl

no,is that the Hammond police mean business, they. will slacken their speed

when coming through Hammond.

Mr. Brown merely took the moral side of the whisky question. This is the last day before the wet and dry campaign and the opinion is freely expressed that the arys will

He has his smart filly. Beautiful, engaged in this rich classic next Tuesday, and present Indications are that she will rule the odds-on favorite in the 1912 renewal this famous classic. Her sensational mile in 1:39 over the Douglas Park track has had the effect of causing a heavy play on her chances, and the result Is that Mr. Flynn's sterling performer now rules the top-heavy favorite for the Oaks. Should she annex the long end of the Oaks purse it would be the Irst time that a Chicago owned thoroughbred has scored such a victory. Following a sensational trial on the part of the Latonia Derby candidate, Sprite, Trainer Karrick offered to wa

The classic Is to be run off at Latonia June 8. and great excitement centers around tha event, Inasmuch as In all Its long career a filly three-year-old never before figured as a possible winner.
