Lots o' fellers thet shuddered when they thought o' th' consequences o' leap year er still a-shudderln'. .Th' only thing sum fellers ever manage f make is enemies. It is said that the Gary & Southern officials are endeavoring to run the line to the public square at the present time, and If allowed will not go over the- Main street brick paving until later In the season. Many of the merchants are already kicking on the plan a they are anxious to have the cars stop nearer the center of the business portion.

If granted the privilege the Interurban people will save a lot of labor in taking up the Main street brick paving and stone foundation, besides keeping the present paving In good condition. A block would only bo gained by mak Ing the additional run to the Joliet street corner and trie Interurban officials hope to be granted the privilege of stopping cars on the Clark street corner of Main until such time as they continue their way through the city south. It Is not known at present what the decision of the good and welfare committee of the city council, the committee who has th interurban matter In charge, will do about it. the question being a delicate orie for them to solve. A paper Is being circulated among the merchants this week asking for the closing of stores on all nights but Wednesday and Saturday evenings of each week during the summer months. The plan is not receiving the heartiest co-operation and endorsement of the merchants, who contend that the farming community must be catered to to the extent of keeping open at night as that lg the only time the farmer can get away to do his buying, etc. It Is not thought at this time that the plan will be adopted by the interested merchants. A big bunch of baseball fans' will
journey from here to Indiana Harbor tomorrow to witness the first game of
the season by last year's rival teams. Crown Point Is -'doped" to win by those who have followed the game this year, and the fans are praying for a better brand of sportsmanship than was evinced at some of the games last year; Many the best- team In the Northern Indiana league win the pennant and keep It flying on the home grounds.-
Mrs. William Parry has been on the sick list for a few days. Everything has been arranged for the dance at Central Music hall this evening, the hall being beautifully decorated by the young ladies giving the party. Foundation work will soon be started on the Ed Geisen house on Court street, and when the extra work Is completed the building will present quite an adornment to that section of town where they are engaged In paying the bills. A big crowd is expected tomorrow to attend the twenty-fifth anniversary exercises at ' Trinity, church. South Bnd. News is a scarce article In Crown Point at present, the farmers and merchants being too busy to make any excitement. Mrs. C. A. Lincoln left today for Muncle, Ind., where she will make an extended visit with relatives.

One of the problems that will be
raised as a result of the improvement of the service will be that of keeping the railroad crossing unobstructed. A ten minute or even 15 minute service could easily be demoralized by a delay of ten minutes atthe railroad crossings. Steps will have to be taken at once to keep the crossing clear and arrests will probably be made if a crossing is held longer than five minutes. The concession of the street railway company means that Hammond, in the future, is to move forward at a faster pace than it has moved before. It means that it is to take on the appearance of metropolitan activity. It means that it is to be made Just that much more accessible from the outside world. Coming Just at this time when the
