Chicago Promoter Will Pull

off Mill in the Steel City.

Good progress is being made on the Chicago end of the prizefight to be

staged in. Gary on Memorial day. It Is expected that the scrappers will be signed up in the windy city today by Promoter Barney Green who has tak

en over Sam Sax's interest in the Tol

leston arena.

It is given out In the , promoter's

camp that everything is O. K. and that there, wil be no Interference with the bouts. Last year a good fight was to be staged on the fourth of July but some contractors who weren't "in on the deal" knocked out the fights for revenge. The Chicago Examiner

prints today: "Johnny Thompson and Eddie Mi

Goorty did not sign yesterday to batr tie at Gary on May 30, as anticipated. Thompson was present at the Nate

Lewis gym at' 3 o'clock and Manager

Marty Forkins was there for McGoorty. But Promoter Barney Green failed to come in from Gary. He phoned Thompson, however, that he would

meet him here tomorrow in an effort

to come to terms. In the meantime both the Cyclone and McGoorty will

go ahead arranging other matches and

the Hoosier promoter may lose out.

Thompson Is eager and willing for

the clash with McGoorty. The latter

already has come to terms with Green.

Thompson said that all he would ask

of Gren was a fair percentage of the gate, with no guarantee except one that the battle will be staged as per schedule. Surely that ought to suit the promoter. There will be no new

developments In the situation" until

tomorrow.

"There is every ehance that if the Thompson-McGoorty match Is closed

an attractive seml-windup will be arranged. Sailor Bill Walters and Eddie Nearing, the Reliance A. C. s'tar. are

being figured on and would be sure t-

put up a slashing battle. The Sailor!

has graduated from the se'ml-windup class, but is willing to give Nearing a

chance at Gary, because an injury pre

vented him from meeting the West Sjder last Winter. They were to box

before an Indiana club, but Walters was forced to call things off because of a sore foot. Nearing then stopped
