NEW RIVET PLANT FOR E. CHICAGO
As in very public question of grave importance, there are some few who are looking solely to their personal interests who may howl because the street cars on't go past their property. But for the general good there 'seems to be no better route than that adopted, and the terms of the franchise in other respects seem to meet the approval' of citizens generally as represented by a committee of business men who stand for the most varied interests. All of these things being the case there seems to be nothing now in the way of rushing the franchises through and thereby making: It possible for the

twenty acres of land in the city of
East Chicago, on which they intend to erect a modern rivet plant. The details of the transaction were closed yesterday, negotiation having been conducted by C. W. Hotchkiss, and Judge Walter J. Riley, of the First Calumet Trust & Savings Bank. The land was purchased from Gostlin. Myen and Co. of Hammond. The tract Is bounded on the north by 151st stret, on the west by Forsythe avenue, on the south by the
right-of-way of the Indiana Harbor
Belt Railroad company, and on the east by Railroad avenue. The purchasers are to have posses
sion of the land June 1st. The engineers of the Champion Rivet Company have made a, preliminary aurvey of the property and are now at work upon the plans and specifications for
the construction of the plant.
The construction of this plant w'll
start simultaneously with the con
struction on "the Baldwin Locomotive
Company's plant, which- is held bacX only on account of the delay In the
granting of the street car franchises by the city of East Chicago. It is hoped, however, by the Champion Rivet Company, that this matter will
be adjusted not later than the end of
this week, so that they may start con
struction on or before June 1st. t
The new location is one of the best factory site locations in the Calumet district, being on one of the main thoroughfares' of the city of East Chicago, and within four . block of ths principal business section of the city,
and within easy access to the labor
market and served by the Terminal Transfer and the
Harbor Belt Railroads.

Streets Renamed. The Gary nomenclature tangle Is to be straightened out and . streets that bear three and four different names will have to be contented with one. Streets in the west part of the. city have one name north of the (high line, two names In TolTeston and a fourth
one down by the Ridge road. Similarly many streets that cross the Little Calumet have different names on eilltcr side of that stream. . . The board of public works will make a -.nomenclature revision tmrt-rttmiit', it to the city council for approval.
