HAMMOND GARDENS
AUCTION To repeat next Safurda May 4th-at 2 o'clock-May 5th Six Blocks South of Standard Mill Gate COLUMBIA AVENUE and FIFTEENTH STREET Take South Hohman Street cars, get off at Columbia Avenue. Automobiles meet cars days of Auction. LOTS $39 TO $109
Have you any idea what these prices mean? Why you can't buy a desirable lot anywhere in the Calumet Region for $200.00. Hammond has always been safe and conservative in its lot prices. From Hammond it is easy to get to Chicago, Whiting, Indiana Harbor, East Chicago and Gary. Here is the one and only chance for a man of moderate means to own a lot. Every one of these lots is worth $100 and we are selling some of them as low as $39.00, and all on easy payments. The people who buy lots are usually the slowest to see real bargains and catch on to the fact that values are lumping up. One man in Hammond,
three weeks ago, bought a place for $2,100.00. Last week he refused $6,500.00 for this same piece of property. Now maybe you can't buy such an expensive piece of property as that, it may be like running into an ice-berg, it would bust you, but anyone who really wants to buy lots and save their money can buy one or two or five of these lots and it will make you independent in five years. Quit blowing money foolishly. You may not be able to work in a few years so save up something. With a few lots, which grow in value rapidly, and a good garden, you have a chance. TWO $300 LOTS FREE The offer of The Lake County Times will be continued. The two wageearners that give the 10 best reasons, why you should own a home in Hammond, will get these two choice lots FREE. 15TH AVENUE is to be paved and improved, 80 feet wide clear into Gary. It will be the Hammond-Gary thoroughfare. , Come into our office any time. We will take you out in an automobile and show you Hammond Gardens. BEAUTIFUL PRESENTS HANDSOME SILVERWARE GIVEN AWAY FREE AT THE AUCTION.
Never again in the history of Hammond real estate will you have the chance to buy good lots at these prices. If it rains we will hold Auction in large building on the land. Fr auctioneer Sates Manager . Central Investment & Realty

FIVE RUNS 11 8TH
hp cues, T-5
very Tanglo Due to Heine Zim Paves Way to Victory for Cincinnati-
one Ivory tangle, due to Heine Zlm's
unfamlliarlty with first base, cost the
Cubs a victory which they apparently
had nailed to the mast In the eight Inningof yesterday's play off of a postponed game with the Reds and gave Jimmy Lavender an undeserved beating by a score of 7 to 5.
Through the opening offered them by hat misplay Hank O'Day's crew yank
ed five runs in a bunch, despite the. fact Mordecai Brown was called upon to man the lifeboat for the first time this
year.
Up to that fatal session the Cubs had
everything their own way. Lavender
n his first start of the league season
was pitching like a veteran and after Bescher had opened on him with a home run seemed to have the measure of the Reds to the fraction of an inch. He was outpitching Suggs in every way
and his support was far superior to that given his opponent. By taking advantage of holes In the Red defense Change's men gradually accumulated
five runs and held the advantage by 5
to 1 up to the eighth innfng.
TY COBB'S TRICK
BEATSWHITE SOX
Slides Into Third Bag and
Kicks Ball Away for Winning Eun.
Detroit. Mich.. May 1. The winning
streak of the Whit Sox was broken yesterday afternoon when in the last half of the tenth inning, Ty Cobb of
the Tigers awoke,, executed one of his
characteristic haserunnlng tricks and
scored the winning run for Detroit. The
White Sox yelled in angered protest and the game eniid in maddened con
fusion, but the score stood 4 to S In
favor of the home team.
The largest portion of the excite
ment of the conflict took place in the last two minutes of play. One man was out and the score tied when Cobb singled to left field. Crawford fouled off one Into the stand before he connected
squarely with the ball and hit It on a line to center field. The ball came to Bodle nicely on the second bound and Cobb was at second base fairly pranc ' lng.
Cobb saw Bodie hesitate Just & frac
tion of a second after getting the ball and that was Just what he was waiting
for. Like a mad man he was off for third base. Bodie in his amaiement heaved the ball to that corner, and It came to Tannehill on a short bound. Tanny dropped It. Just then Ty slid
Into the base and kicked the ball clear
Into the home players' bench, then
gathered himself up and scooted on home with the winning run.

' - - BY SPIKE. After the boxing lid has been nailed down tight for the past two months in Lake county there comes the good news to the fans from East Chicago that the lid has been titled once more for the time being and the next boxing show-will be staged Tuesday evening. May 7, at the Coliseum rink. In view of the fact that Governor Marshall has advised the reformers of Fort Wayne and likewise in East Chi
cago that he would be pleased ta have those who object to only clean boxing contests, go and see the bouts and If they are not conducted properly and tinder the law, he will order the contests stopped. With these . faats the management will try and stage the coming bouts as they were conducted under the law in the past contests. Manager Joe Simpson, who has made a wide circle of friends in East Chicago and many business men who are
back of him see no reason why the bouts cannot be put on without any interference from the police. Although there are many who are not in favor of boxing contests in , East Chicago there Is a greater number. Including prominent business and professional men. who want to see the boxing game flourish. The business men Report that 1 the fight fans brought a large revenue Into East Chicago and ask. with Manager Simpson at Its head, that the bouts be not Interfered with if run under: the law. An excellent card Is being arranged for the coming exhibitions and Manager 8impson expects to Bign either Eddie Murphy vs. Joe Mandot or Eddie McGoorty vs. Jack Dillon, fighters whom the fans of the country are clamoring to see in action. With either one of these pair-signed up some fast preliminaries will also be put on.

Folks should not get the Idea that when a fighter says he did so many miles on the road he runs every step of the route. ' They don't do that, even when in condition. Johnson did his eight miles at a fast walk with a few short Jogs interspersed. He pulled up a little stiff and sore, but after another week the lameness will disappear. Contrary to the schedule mapped out the champion did no boxing. He was tired, after his run and averred that he would not don the mitts until next week. ' Each morning this week he will cavort on the road lor two hours and that will be all. The O'Connell gymnasium will be the scene of his boxing activities when he gets started with the gloves. Johnson weighed 235 stripped yester
day. He thinks he will take off about fifteen pounds by May 20, when he leaves for the battle ground' at Las Vegas, N. M. He expects to jump Into the arena with Flynn July 4. The Pueblo fireman and Promoter Jack Curley will be In town today. Flynn did a stage turn at Wichita last night and then grabbed a rattler with his manager for Chicago. Curley Is coming for the ceremony of handing Johnson $1,100 for training expenses. The articles say the champ must get this money today. It will be a double play. Curley will hand a check or perhaps the real coin to Stakeholder Al Tearney. Then Tearney will slip the kale to Johnson. Curley and
