BLOW IN NEW FURNACE MAY 1 The first of the two new furnaces at the plant of the Iroquois Iron company, located at the mouth of that Calumet river, will be blown In about the first of May, according to the latest Information obtainable. The new furnace is rapidly nearing completion and various tests are being made. One or two minor changes which have been made necessary delayed the opening of the furnace. But for these alterations, the big pig iron producer would now be in operation. South Chicago Calumet. Counting this furnace, the new one recently fired at the Inland Steel plant and the one recently fired for the first time at the Gary steel works, this
makes three new blast furnaces to go into commission in the Calumet region
steel belt, the first half of this year.
The Calumet region now has one-half as many blast furnaces as the Pittsburg
district.
