Social News IN :' Ham m ond A THEATER PARTY. Miss Margaret Blake, Miss Grace Houk, Miss Fern Houk, Miss Udella leaver. Miss Lillian Lewis, Miss Lorna Smith, Miss Ethel Donnelly. Messrs. Friedley Johnston, Kins Trimble and Nolan Deaver composed a theater party In " Chicago last evening to see "The Merchant of Venice" at the Gari HH Theater. "A TRIP AltOlD THE WORLD." .Miss C'athryn Switser, Miss Mabel l'owley, Miss Nellie' Doyle and Miss Adele Dunbar were hostesses at one of the most enjoyable parties of the week end last evening. They entertained a small company of friends at a "Trip Around the World." They met at the home of Miss Switzer in Russell street at seven-thirty o'clock where Boston brown bread and baked beans were served. Miss Mabel Powley's home in Clinton street was decorated prettily to represent Scotland where the young people met after a short stay In Boston and were served ScotchJ scons, current buns and black tea. They arrived at Japan at the home of Miss Nellie Doyle at nine-thirty o'clock. Rice pudding, wafers and Japan tea were served. At ten-thirty o'clock the guests arrived at the home of Miss Adele Dunbar in Rlmbach avc- . nue which represented Washington, D. ', C. Here ice cream, cake and bon-bons were served. The homes were all at tractively decorated in the colors of the country they represented and ap propriate games were played. The evening's entertainment was thoroughly enjoyed by the following young peo . pie: Miss Nancy Peterson, Miss Mildred Carter, Miss Marguerite Knotts, Miss Kalilla Trotter, Miss Clara Fedler, Miss Cathryn Switzer, Miss Mable Powley, Miss Nellie Doyle and Miss Adele Dunbar, Messrs. A SOCIETY EVEST, One of the leading society events of the season will be a dance at which the members of the J. B. H. Club will entertain Friday evening, April 26th in the Masonic Temple in' Muenich Court. The. party will honor the young people from a distance who will be in Hammond for the Lake County .Oratorical Contest. During will begin at eight-thirty o'clock. A very excellent program had been prepared for the meeting of the Parents' Club of the Washington school yesterday afternoon in the kindergarten room in "Williams street- There was a short business session when a report of the recent entertainment was given showing that over one hundred dollars had been realized. The pro ceeds will be used for the phonograph funds. Plans were made for an evening meeting in May when it is desired that there is a large attendance of the membership. Dr. Q. I Smith talked to the members on "Oral Hygiene" and his address was very instructive. The Boy Scouts met last evening in the parlors of the First Baptist church in East Sibley street for their regular weekly meeting. The usual number oT members attended the meeting. Levi Golden talked to the boys on "Cheerfullness." The business hour was spent with plans for the next regular meeting and for the baseball game to be held today. AX ATHLETIC MEET. A number of Hammond young people ! attended the social given by the memi bera of the Epworth League of- the ; First M. E. church last evening in the basement , of the church in Russell street. The social was in the nature ot an athletic meet and a very unique program had been arranged for th evening. The guests were delightfully entertained. The large company was divided to represent Indiana, Illinois Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota in the athletic contests and $he honors were won by Wisconsin. Indiana won second honors and Michigan, third. A large tin cup which represented a loving cup was awarded to the Wisconsin team. 'Following the program, of events refreshments were served. Representatives from Hobart, East Chicago, Whiting and "West Pullman were also attendance. Among the prominent members were Mrs., Minnie Glllen, the dlstriedeputy and Mrs. Johnson the state oracle. F. men and some of th3 lodge men are coming to Hammond from Rensselaer and Lafayette to avail themselves of the special car on the South Shore line which has been chartered by the degree team of Baumgartner court and which leaves Hammond at 7:15 in the morning. The Baumgartner degree team will confer the inltlaroty degrees and the state officials will be present to install the new lodge in Laporte. Father Byrne formerly of Whiting now of Indianapolis will officiate at the high mass at Laporte will be attended by the visiting Foresters in a body. At Michigan City the excursionists will change cars to Laporte and an extra car will be added there to carry the Michigan City contingent. Hammond is expected to send a large delegation. William Taylor, manager of Taylor's theatre and who runs a meat market, has sold the meat market building ana fixtures to Charles Thompson of Creston for t3,000. Mr. Taylor will run the market until Oct. 1, when Mr. Thompson, who will farm this year, will take possession and run the market. Mrs. Ainsworth, who has been visiting a son in Gary, returned to the home of her son Wells in this place last evening. HOBART. Mrs. Loudenburg and daughter were Chicago visitors yesterday. Many from out of town are expecting to attend the dance this evening, given in Stratton'a hall by the Modern Woodmen. - The condition of Miss Margaret Servies, who is sick, with chickenpox, remains about the same.
